Lyrical Laments - 7. Chapter 7 Current Events

What is happening? My brain has trouble understanding the folly of man. Warning... condemnation and fear.

Lyrical Laments

Chapter 7 Current Events

Current Events

There is no certainty in the air

No tact, no poise, no savoir faire

An angry bull in a china shop

Mangling rules while on the hop

I’m viewing the world as one big mess

As the value of some people become less

Being gay is decreed bad for your health

No rebuttal from warped and privileged wealth

Apathy reigns when all the lights go out

Yet to simply kneel will cause a great shout

Owe great allegiance to what exactly?

When souls around you do glow blackly

Worshippers will crow about the loss of faith

Yet ignore the presence of a demon’s wraith

Who tears down hope while building walls

Ignoring real tragedy and desperate calls

I fear our humanity is being remade

And common decency has been waylaid

I look to you, my lost fellow man

Please tell me when this became the plan

When men will march to show their hate

Causing brave innocence to meet its fate

And callous leaders look the other way

Invoking no shame in the light of day

I’ve been through the wars to find my place

To be a proud member of the human race

So why do I feel we’re in a new dark age

Suffering collapse while turning back the page

Thanks for reading. We can never give up.

You speak to all our fears Gary.  Most days I’m in denial.. then I get angry. Then I try convince myself this is an alternate universe.. But then I wake up... It is worrisome and sad, but we need to try to find the light of hope I think.

Like any thinking person, I just don't get it.... In school, I said the Pledge of Allegiance every day and stood for our Anthem when it would be played...but that was a different world; people would say naive, I would say, no--we knew bad things were out there in the world, but the way to defeat them was by standing together, believing there was a way for us to come together to solve problems as a whole.  Somewhere that vision--and it was more than patriotism--was lost in favor of falling for the lie that Self is more important than Belonging.  From earliest times, successful societies have known that you accomplish things as a group, while keeping your individual identity close to your breast as you joined others in building society--be it a Pyramid or a Constitution.

Sure, society has problems--none has ever been perfect--but even the founders of the Civil Rights movement had the vision of uniting all of us into one proud people...Martin Luther King must be turning over in his grave at the actions of those who claim to be proponents of Equality today--their 'equality' comes at the cost of tearing down everyone else to the lowest common denominator rather than raising everyone to the level where the Dream can become real.  'I have a Dream...' has turned into: 'I don't have a plan, but I'm going to trash everything others believe because I'm angry.'

The Russians must be laughing their asses off because they lost the Cold War on the field of battle, but are gloating--and perhaps abetting--those who are dismantling our unity one step at a time.  It won't take terrorist threats from outside to end our country, we're more than capable of doing it ourselves.

On the winds of Time today, the Song of Truth is blown away in the Whirlwind of Lies....

This is despairing and angry and perfectly expresses how I feel when I read and see what’s going on in the world today.

You speak for me: for my outrage, for my bewildered soul. What happened to the world we hoped for, the one we tried to build?

I struggle with what the world is becoming... I'm trying to keep the faith... Thanks, Parker

I run the gamut of emotions too, but I am afraid mostly... it's as if we can't stop the careening down treacherous paths. Thanks, Def

Even my tears can't begin to express the humbling truth , The Fears, and the Grounds we thought Had been covered, and addressed only to find... the pains, and agony still digress in the poverty of persitant, pernicious words, thoughts, and actions.... trying to appease by way of apathy, antisemitic mindsets..... Using different tactics to dictate their sense of  what is "NORMAL" or accepted and tolerated ...... The " FEAR" if not real" Should Be ...." The ground gained... Only Temporary... As We are numbered, and exsposed .... for the world to Know who, and what we are.... the Fear while less... can bring Destruction...! But Only if we let it...!!!! Well wrote and spoken from the HEART As a vet of Homaphobia, and Bigots... We have at our age experienced Moral breakdown and Hatred Very bad, But not at its Worste.... But...... "We Can.....NEVER .... give up!!! " Thanks Gary... We both have been through it, and in it this long... to Give up Now !!!!!!:hug:

You're right, but the fear and worry are tiresome... gained ground is fast disappearing, and the world seems powerless... Thanks, Bob

On the winds of Time today, the Song of Truth is blown away in the Whirlwind of Lies....

Yes, we are proving capable of our destruction without any help from others. I  won't get political, but what happened to global responsibility? What has been served by division and isolation and protectionism? Where is the concern for decency, truth, and human rights? Why has it all fallen by the wayside? Why is hate allowed to flourish... ? I thought we'd learned for our mistakes and left that behind... my uneasy feeling that it was illusion has proved right... hatred didn't go away... it just simmered in dark places, waiting for its time to rise again. Thanks, buddy  xoxo

An intriguing poem that eloquently explains what is meant when we speak of the curse of living in interesting times. We have made gains that others feel threatened by.  They have pushed back, but we are still ahead of where we were before.  After teaching many decades, I have trust in the new generation to push the pendulum of change back again.  Once more we will go forward with new force to change the world for better in many ways.

I keep hoping so, Terry, but the hate and brazen actions against women, gays, trans, and the law are shocking to me. Some days I have to avoid all social media and news. Something big is happening, and I am scared. Not for me so much as for the younger marginalized ones. I hope our youth can stop the tidal wave of hate and discrimination sweeping across the world, because it seems we are going backward at an alarming pace. Peace, my friend.
