Loving Fiercely: How I Resist - 4. Chapter 4: Will You

How can I disown my brother? I am at your shoulder. This is another stirring poem; another inescapable question. 

Carry Love, empathy and compassion for all your brothers and sisters. There's more to make us alike, rather than different.

wow, the message here brings up so many emotions and connections. The question you raise is so profound - will he/is he forgotten because of whom he loved? Not canonized as martyr to the cause of ending violence simply because he doesn't matter (and his queer status places him as disposable in the political sense). 

Nothing new about the question, sadly, and I'm reminded about Bush Jr. saying the murder of James Bryd should not be prosecuted as a hate crime, for some reason. The news and aftermath of that case is well-kown and 'used' for political advancement. At around the same time however, another racial and homophobic murder received almost no attention - Steen Fenrich is another of our kind LGTB people need to remember with honor, love and caring.

This was a very difficult piece to write because of that question. It's an unsettling thought and makes me very fearful sometimes. 

I do recall reading about James Byrd sometime after his murder (I had been really young when I first heard of the case), but I never knew Bush Jr.'s stance on the crime, which is disturbing to process. Thank you, however, for enlightening me about Steen Fenrich. He is a member of ours I will do my best to remember and honor with love.
