April Musings - 17. Requiem
Buffalo, NY lost a beloved member of their police force last week. He is being laid to rest today. This is written in honor of him.
Requiem
Red, white, and blue snaps to attention,
The crisp air allowing no respite for the fabric
Hanging at half-mast.
The northern breeze rends orange, crimson, and brown
From now-naked limbs saluting the sky
In a November silhouette.
Roiling waters swirl rapidly,
Driven by wind, rain, and anguish.
The one they claimed will not rest easy
Or go quietly,
As the skies release a community’s grief.
Thank you for reading.
