Rhymes - 25. Restlessness

Restlessness tugs

Even at the hem of my dreams:

Where I seek

Quiet solace.

But assured, I have not been

Since…

I wake and wander

With brief respite

In occupied minds:

Of numbers and strings,

Of logical language,

That pose less resistance

Than the words

That seem to fail my lips.

How quiet my hearth

Has become

And silence, heavy with

Barely a whisper

Of wind in the trees.

And the threads of fate

That bound us all

unwind in their spools

As time spills

Ever forward

And aspirations,

We were never too sure

We had, draw us

Into a perpetual march forward.

Has my heart forgotten,

The mode of its reach?

For it yearns,

Unrelenting.

But now is not the moment

For these questions,

For our goals flicker in the light

At the end of the cave

Within a hair of our grasp.

So I shall drown these

Dogged questions,

Whose answers

I’m not certain

Would yield less uncertainty,

In deep slumber

And rest

These tired hands,

And perhaps,

it too shall soothe

My weary soul.

Deep-felt sentiments come through in eloquent language. It's nice to see you post something again, but I wish it were happier times for you. Hugs

This is quite elegantly written, and you've described the feeling well.  I can relate to the sense of pervasive restlessness and the questions it shouts in my mind at inopportune hours.  Welcome back and I hope the feeling passes soon.

These words speak so eloquently, and with such sadness. The impossibility of some questions, their inability to yield to computation or logic or reason, these can injure the spirit. I offer you my hand for your weariness, and for your spirit.
