Lyrical Laments - 20. Chapter 20 Wish and Invitation
*****
Wish
The crescent moon climbs slowly
In the starred night sky
An ancient light for lovers
Whose beauty makes me sigh
I whisper my truth to you
In a moment bold
And cast my single wish
For someone’s hand to hold
I sense the ancient magic
In your timeless gleam
And though far away you be
Mere feet above, you seem
Close enough to touch
I confess to you my need
For a love to fall
Upon spoken longings freed
I ask not for the Sun
Or a star to light my heart
Only for one other
Who sees me as their part
If it’s too much to ask
I again will wait my turn
For what’s another month
For my lonely soul to yearn
Invitation
Oh, sweet and gentle breeze
A companion sorely missed
Pray visit me upon this day
And lift this stifling pall
Remind me of the lilies by the road
And the clover freshly cut
The horse dozing in the paddock
And the cedars standing tall
Show me the sway of hanging baskets
And leaves fluttering from your kiss
Let me hear those tinkling tubes
Play music outside my door
I want to feel your freshness
Dry my upturned gaze
And shiver with the sudden
Coolness of your touch
Awaken from your slumber
I’m beseeching you
Come play within your kingdom
No more hide and seek with us
