Dear Carlos - 1. A Letter to a Friend

Dear Carlos,

So, what would I say to you that I didn’t if I had the chance?

Thank you, comes to mind. But you’d likely just have told me to behave. That thanks weren’t necessary. I hope that inside, secretly, it would have made you happy.
You were one of the first people to say ‘hi’ to me when I arrived on GA. You offered support and encouraged me to join in and write.
You asked me to read your CJ stories. I did read them, and I enjoyed them. You were happy to discuss my thoughts about the stories and characters. You were never afraid of criticism, offering it or receiving it.
Your support of me and many others new to writing was huge and appreciated.
You never loved poetry, though you liked one or two of mine, so I decided not to try to write one for you.
You were a champion of authors here, and I won’t forget what you did for them and me.

When I saw you hadn’t logged on for several days in June, I knew in my heart what had happened. I prayed I was wrong.
You leave a large, unfillable space in my heart and the hearts of many others. You are missed and remembered.
I will never forget you, C. Thank you for your support, enthusiasm, and the stories and characters you brought to life. In them, we will always find you.
Wherever you are, I hope you are at peace. More likely, you are fighting for a cause!
I hope your favourite bike is with you and its tank will always be full as you ride on.

I'm only reading one or two of these tributes a day - I just haven't had the bandwidth to manage more, so apologies in advance for only getting to yours today. And if I thought that a little ridiculous, here is why...this brought on tears, especially this line. Well done. I am sure Carlos held you in similar high regard. I appreciate you sharing your letter.

You never need apologize to me. i'm grateful to any and all who choose to read my words. Thank you. 

Carlos was one of those people you never forget. He was a giant.

Tim, I'm sorry that I didn't read this before, but I was having trouble dealing with the loss of Carlos.  I struggled getting through my own story, since the loss was so raw and it was too painful thinking about the fact that he was no longer with us to get feedback from.  I found this letter to be not only heartfelt, but very touching, and it reminded me about how much Carlos has been missed and will continue to be missed in the future.  Well done and thank you.  I'm certain Carlos was proud and deeply touched as he read this from the great beyond.

Don't apologize, Bill.  C was such a huge personality. His loss affected many and we each had to deal with that in our own way. He wouldn't want us to be sad for long, but, and I say this with a smile, he wouldn't want us to forget him, either!!  I can smile because I know he was loved and that makes me feel good.
