He was just another kid on the street, a kid that had nothing left--no home, no future, no hope. He was my past. And I was going to become his future.

My first anthology submission--for the "Blurred Edges" theme.  Hope you like it!

This short story is basically all one scene But, that one scene hits quite a punch to the reader. In one scene we get to know that the Colt has regrets from his past and he is hoping to not make what he sees as the same mistake again. We find out that Ryan is in a position no one would want to see a child in. and lastly, we see the war going on with Colt, between his job and his conscience.

I would like to hope that any decent person would make the same choice as Colt does.

I think we have all probably known or knew about someone who didn't get a warm reception when he admitted he was gay.  This is a story about something that had happened with Colt and his best friend, Neil, when they were younger.  Colt's parents hadn't immediately wrapped their arms around the situation, but they didn't turn their backs on him either.  His friend Neil wasn't so lucky.  His parents had thrown him out and Colt never saw him again after that.

This memory is what is driving him to want to help Ryan, a boy who looked similar to Neil and was obviously in a situation similar to what Neil had been in.  This time, Colt wanted to do something to help Ryan, since he'd been too young to help Neil when it had happened to him.  Read this very moving short story and see how it turns out.  You won't be sorry that you did!
