My Life Started After High School - 17. The Good and Bad - I Don't Beleive it
Carter's POV
Looking around our small studio apartment, just two bedrooms and a living space. Just enough space for us, but not much else. That was all fine though; it was a place to call home. Tre didn't have much, and I only have clothes, so it didn't take long before I was unpacked.
Tre had ordered pizza for us on our first day officially unpacked. “Welcome to our new life Carter.” We raised our glasses of coke up in cheers. “What do you want out of life Carter? You have to have dreams for something.”
For some reason, I blushed. “I don't know, never thought about my future aside from where I would stay the next night. Not sure what I want to do in the future.”
“Something to think about Carter. You should have some kind of dream to aspire to.” Tre took a big bite of his pizza. “When I was growing up I always wanted to be a teacher.”
“Do you still want to become a teacher? You're young enough to start the schooling for it.”
“I will eventually, but not too soon. I'm comfortable right where I am in life.” Tre pushed the rest of the pizza towards me. “Think about it; you don't have to answer now. But having something to strive for in life is a good thing.”
I wonder... what will I aspire to be? What do I want to do with my life?
A few Months prior
I saw a sign on the doors to the mall and knew it was regarding me. 'A string of phone thefts has been occurring in the mall, please keep an eye on your phone and keep it in your pocket while you are not using it. The matter is currently being investigated.'
“Damn.” There wasn't any way I was going to be able to get someone's phone with these signs up.
I started to walk away but was interrupted by a voice. “Young man!” I turned around to see an officer coming towards me. My anxiety rose instantly to full. “Who are you here with?”
“I am here by myself...” I stood in fear. There was no way they could know it was me who took the phones but nonetheless.
He looked towards his watch. “Shouldn't you be in school right now?” I shrugged my shoulders. “It's Tuesday at 1:30 pm and you're not in school... What are you doing?”
My eyes never left his. “I am just out for a walk, sir.”
The skepticism in his eyes was visible. “What's your name?”
“James,” I replied much too quickly for my own good.
“Well James, how about you come with me into the mall for a second.” I didn't know what he wanted from me. My first thought was that he suspected me of the phone thefts. The second thought was calling my parents. Either way, I didn't want to go with him.
So I turned and booked it away from him. Sprinting away from the mall I headed into back sidewalks to get as far away as I could. After almost ten minutes of full out sprint, I finally collapsed in a field. I laid there catching my breath.
After a few minutes, I got up and started walking again. When I came across a playground, I heard a noise coming from the top of a slide. Upon investigation, it was a cell phone, and someone was calling it.
When it stopped ringing, I checked for a passcode, but there wasn't one. So I turned the phone off and took out the SIM card. I was almost caught with someone's phone last time cause of that little card. Wasn't going to make the same mistake again.
Now that I had a new phone, I went to the closest place with free wifi. It happened to be a Tim Horton’s near the mall I just ran from. Very quickly I got onto the wifi and downloaded Grindr.
After just a bit I got a message on the app.
You're at timmies aren't you?
It shocked me. The profile didn't have a picture and no location to it. Quickly taking a look around most people were on their cell phones. It was impossible to tell which one was messaging me.
Don't worry kid; I'll take you in tonight.
And he sent me a pic of himself. My eyes went wide; he was sitting right beside me... This guy can't be more than in his 20s. His youth still showed slightly, but his facial hair made him look older. He seemed like a trustworthy guy.
My name is Freddy; you want to come to my place tonight?
Me- It'll cost you.
Freddy- I'm giving you a place to stay, and I have to pay? How is that fair?
Me- I'm 15; you're buying my silence on what you want from me.
Freddy- How do you know what I want from you?
Me- Every guy I've gone with has wanted a young boy to play with, what makes you different?
Freddy- Fair enough kid. How much am I paying?
Me- 200 for the night.
Freddy- I'll pay 300 for two nights
I looked over at him, and all he did was raise his eyebrows. “Let's get going,” was all I said to him. Freddy gave off a smile and got up leading me out of the store. We got to his car, which looked pretty damn new, but I didn't get in. “I want the money first.”
With a smile and nod, he pulled out his wallet. “Here's $200 now, you'll get the other $100 tomorrow night. Fair?” I nodded and got into his car. As he drove off, I felt quite safe in his car. But nonetheless still anxious for what this Freddy would end up doing.
Noah's POV
Me – When are you going to be coming home?
Aidyn – Right after exams are done promise.
Me – Okay. Thanks.
Aidyn – Love you.
I stared at my phone but couldn't type it back to him. So I let out a sigh and threw myself back onto my bed. “What am I going to do?” I asked no one.
But apparently, someone was listening though. My phone started to ring and ring until it fell silent. Moments later it rang again. With a groan, I looked at the phone to see Tiz's name appear on the screen.
“What do you want Tiz?” I continued to groan.
Tiz was caught off guard. “Whoa, what's up with you Noah?”
“I'm just frustrated right now.”
“Well, we're going to get that frustration out, come on over to the house of Tiz!” Though he could not see me, I rolled my eyes. “So when will you get here?”
I rolled over to look at the clock; it read 3:40. “Dinner will be ready shortly; I shouldn't go out yet.”
“Pffft! Mom's gotcha covered, she's making spaghetti tonight. Your Aunt will be okay with it. Come on; please come hang out with me.” Tiz had a slight beg in his voice.
“Fine, I'll be over in a bit.”
“SICK! You're awesome Noah! See you in a bit.” He hung up the phone suddenly. Within a couple of minutes, I had told my Aunt the plan and was on my way over to Tiz's.
When I got there, Tiz was waiting for me on his porch. “What's up Tiz?”
“Nothing much, what's up with you?” Tiz sat cross-legged in a chair on the front porch.
“Not much...” I didn't even convince myself with that. I could see Tiz sensed something was up. He barely even reacted before I spoke again. “Okay, it's about Aidyn.”
“You couldn't even maintain the doubt for me? I didn't have to work for the answer.” I rolled my eyes. “Okay, what happened?”
So I told him all about Aidyn the other morning. I know it's not the worst thing in the world, but that doesn't stop it from being something that upset me. Like, Aidyn drinks, I know that about him, but it seemed like a lapse in judgment.
“So now I have this Cupid kid on my mind, and I don't even know who he is.” We stayed on the porch the entire time I ranted. With a huff, I finished my rant and waited for Tiz to speak.
He took it all in for a few moments. “Sounds like you need to talk to him about it.”
“He's at school. I'm not having that conversation over Skype.”
“Fair. How are you going to deal with it until that happens though? You seemed really glum at school today. Even Isaiah noticed, and he doesn't notice anything!” I laughed because it's a bit true. “Like Edea will drop the hints, and it will go in one ear and out the other.”
“Ya I guess I need to deal with it... but Aidyn isn't in town to do anything about it.” I quick shiver went up my spine. It's amazing how long we lasted outside when it's lightly snowing out. It's the beginning of December after all; it's cold out. “Can we go inside now?”
Tiz shrugged. “Sure, if the cold is bothering you.” Tiz led the way into his house, and we got interrupted by his mother telling us to wash up for dinner. “Well guess it's time for dinner, we'll figure out what to do about you in a bit 'kay?”
I just laughed, “I think I'll be fine, thanks though Tiz. You're a good friend to have around.”
“Hell yeah, I am!”
Abel's POV
Kyler was sick for a couple of days, so he hasn't been able to badger me about Jason's visit. Jason, on the other hand, has been badgering me about hanging out again. Telling me how much fun he had when he came over. Jason sat there talking to my mom... How is that fun?
I was very thankful to see Kyler walking through the hallways this morning. And then instantly less so. “So how was having Jason over?”
“You were sick for the past couple days, and that's where we go first?” Kyler nodded fiercely. I rolled my eyes and replied, “He talked to my mom the entire time.”
“Legit?” I nodded. “That's lame. He totally has a thing for you.”
“And I hate it. Can we just not talk about Jason?” And like that, he turned the corner and saw us. “Oh god...”
Smiling Kyler poked my ribs. “Don't say his name in vain.”
I didn't even have time to reply before Jason was right in front of us. “Hey, guys!” This guy is way too cheerful. Seriously, how can he be so happy all the time!? “How are you two today?”
“Oh just chipper Jason!” Kyler met his energy somehow. Then immediately went back down to normal morning grumbles. “It sucks, I'm awake. Stop being cheerful.”
Jason just laughed. “But I love mornings.” His smile made me irritated. I'm with Kyler, mornings suck. “Anyways, any news about me coming over again? I know your mom is super strict about this kind of stuff.”
“Not yet Jason. I'll get back to you when she does.” I totally lied to him. Not even a word about Jason's return had been spoken to my mom. Not until she tells me how cool he is and how I should bring him back sometime. I dread that moment.
His smile made me fall deeper into the dread of the morning. “Okay, thanks, Abel” and then he disappeared into the halls of the school.
Kyler looked over at me from the corner of his eye. “Seriously, he's REALLY into you.”
“I know!” I spoke louder than I should have. I calmed down a bit before speaking. “What am I going to do about him?”
“Tell him you're not interested?”
“He'd just deny he's into me and you know it.”
Kyler nodded in agreement. “Very true! Boy doesn't realize he's gay!”
“Hey boys.” A teacher was peering out of his classroom, looking right at us. We stood there like a deer caught in headlights. “Shouldn't you boys be getting into class by now?”
“Yes, sir!” I quickly replied before we both walked away really fast. Once we were far enough away, I spoke again. “That was a close one; we should watch about saying gay stuff.”
“Whatever, I don't care, but if you do, I'll watch my tongue. Now I should be getting to class, so have fun with Jason, see ya later.”
“It's never fun!” I stomped my foot in a hissy fit. Kyler just laughed and made his way off to class. Jason is not going to be fun to be around. To be fair, he is never fun to be around. It's just going to get worse now on. “Can't Jason just not be into me?”
Greyson's POV
There she was... the lady following me around everywhere. I could hear her on the other side of the room, and my bladder was just about to burst. Guess I'm going to have to accept that she's helping me out.
I raise my hand and spoke clearly. “Excuse me...”
“Yes, Greyson?” I heard his voice coming from his desk.
“May I go to the bathroom?”
There was a pause before the answer. “Of course, Greyson.”
I got up and made my way to the bathroom, knowing full well I had a shadow. I got to the urinal and relieved myself, and when I turned around found myself with lips pressed against mine. They were not Sky's lips; I could feel that.
So I shoved the guy off and tried to smack him, but missed. “Fuck off!” I yelled quite loudly.
“Greyson is everything okay?” There she is... I guess she is out there for a reason though.
I could hear the guy whisper to himself. “Oh fuck.”
Footsteps came in, and the guy tried to rush out of the bathroom. “No, no, no. You stay right there young man, what's your name?” The kid didn't answer. “Greyson, what happened?”
“I got kissed again.” Silence filled the room; She was probably glaring at the guy. “I'm fine, promise. Just take us to the office.”
A few hours later I learned it was Kayde Virtue who had kissed me, both times. My mother has spent the past I don't even know how long telling the principle to expel Kayde. Sky and I sat there waiting for their conversation to be done.
Kayde's family came by, and he got a stern talking to. His father was stern as all hell with him. I assume he had a little brother there named Kyler as he was being used as an example every other sentence.
“I sincerely apologize for all stress my son has caused you Greyson.” Mr. Virtue spoke to my mother and I. “He's been taught better than this, haven't you!?” His tone was consequential.
“Yes, sir...” Kayde was barely audible, even for me to hear.
Sky sat there snuggling close to me. “You okay Greyson?”
I nodded. “We can go on your blind date now at least.”
“Yes, yes we can.” Sky chuckled before giving me a kiss on the cheek.
The moment was ruined though when mom came out of the office in a huff. “If you're not going to do anything about this I'll just take my son to another school.”
“I assure you, ma’am that I am taking this seriously.” The principle followed mom out of the room. “For the time being young Mr. Virtue will be suspended. Upon his possible return, we will put in place a restraining order preventing him from being anywhere near Greyson.
“We will present the case to the school board at the earliest possible time to get this resolved as soon as possible. I assure you I am doing everything possible that can be done right now, Mrs. Payne.”
Mom wasn't having any of it. “If this kid, who has sexually assaulted my son, ends up returning to this school, Greyson will no longer be attending here.”
“That is up to you ma'am.” Our principle spoke calmly. “If you believe it is best for Greyson, I back your decision. I would hold out until the ruling by the school board Mrs. Payne.” Mom said nothing as she came over to me.
Sky lightly pulled me up, and we started walking out of the school. Mom kept muttering to herself about the entire thing. I guess since we found the guy... so things can return to the way they were, right?
