Michael Dun - 28. Chapter 28

It was this faceless man looming in the background that pervaded Michael's thoughts, morning, noon and night. He delved deep into his mind to find new images that might present a clearer picture. But the more he delved, the less he succeeded. He could not wait for a reply from Cecelia or "Father"; he had to act quickly.

So he did the next logical thing and wrote "Father" directly. In a letter similar to Cecelia's letter.

Gordon's intention was to offer comfort to Michael and Danie. He respected them and was proud to be their friend. He firmly believed that Michael thought him to be a little one-sided because of what he had said at the trial, but that was the past. It seemed to Gordon that all of his friendships landed up broken and sad. There was John who died by the hands of a madman whom he thought was a friend, and Michael and Danie were giving him the cold shoulder. He had stood up to this barrage for several days so he approached Michael after the shift and offered him a mug of tea. Then he said something Michael expected had been coming a long time.

"I have decided to go my own way." He lamented that he had to leave. He had to look to the future, at the moment he had very little in the way of a future. The futures of Michael and Danie looked bright. They had gathered a circle of influential people about them. Gordon had learned dearly from this experience. Going it alone would bring him success. He would drive himself with passion, for success came with passion.

"I do not want you to leave us. Where will you go?"

"Back to England. Begin again. All that kind of mumbo jumbo."

"I do wish you would reconsider. We do need you."

"I am uncomfortable here, Michael."

"In certain ways we have all lost a loved one. Your John, Danie's Marie and my Charlie. It is uncanny."

"I have never found a friend so great, John and I were best of friends."

"I sincerely mean it when I say that I hope you will find love one day, Gordon."

"If I am to be honest with myself, there is far too much exploring to do. However, yes, I am confident there shall come a time in my life."
