Little Things - 3. The Point Of No Return
The Point of No Return
“Did you see that sign, Dsimt?” Czapt asked.
“No, I am monitoring that human show 20/20. We are on auto pilot,” replied Dsimt as he peered at a screen. “What did it say?”
“It said: Turn Back Now. Before It’s Too Late.” Czapt said. He faced Dsimt.“What is 20/20?”
“It’s a show about things that happen to humans. I thought that we could learn more about them by watching it.”
“Are you learning more?”
“I am.” Dsimt said.
“Look, there’s another sign.” Czapt exclaimed. “This one says: You are nearing the Point of No Return, Turn Back. Why are these signs out here?”
Dsimt watched the 20/20 show intently. “I think I know, Czapt.”
“Why? What have you learned?” Czapt, looked over Dsimt’s shoulder.
“I’ve learned that we should not waste our time visiting Earth. Humans keep things called pets. Some keep large ruminants in their homes, others sleep with dogs, they murder each other, have their doctors carve them up so they look better, they build weapons that will kill all life on the planet and won’t stop fighting amongst themselves.”
“Oh my, perhaps you’re right, Dsimt.”
“Yet, Czapt, there are some humans which seem intelligent and want to preserve life and their culture. These are the humans I wish to meet.”
Czapt looked at Dsimt quizzically, “But you said we shouldn’t waste our time visiting.”
“No, we shouldn’t visit,” agreed Dsimt. He smiled ruefully. “I think we should to mount a rescue mission instead.”
