Some of the imagery in this story is beautiful and vivid. Your awareness and

description of the world around your characters is a real strength in your writing.

Many authors are good with dialogue, drama and personal descriptions, but really

come up short when it comes to the environment in which their characters exist.

You have no such problem. Reading some stories is like driving down the highway

and only seeing the billboards. It's a shame, so much is missed.

Now I will be a little pedantic: I am interested in Geography. I look up places mentioned

in a story that I don't know. In this story, it seems that it's set in Northeast India, near

Pakistan, but other places mentioned seem closer to Nepal, and the lake in the

title comes up as being in New York State. So I am confused, and even though it really

isn't an important matter, since this is fiction, I am curious about whether these

places are real. Are they?

About the places, its set in Western India, Gujarat to be precise. The holy Kund mentioned in the story, is located in Gujarat. But there is another Kund, by the same name, that happens to be in Nepal. The fort UparKot, is in Junagadh, Gujarat. I changed the name of the town from Junagadh to Rajgadh. I wanted to keep the location of the story fairly ambiguous. The Sasan Gir National Park is located 65 km to the south-east of Junagadh. It is the sole home of the Asiatic Lions.
