Vignettes - 1. Crisis

It was worse for Ian. He was new at relationships. Ian believed a disagreement predicted trouble ahead. This had been an actual argument!

He knew it was finished ...over! He had raised his voice to Miles! Why had he slapped the table? Why had he walked out to find himself here at the corner store buying a pack of cigarettes? He gave up smokes two years ago for gosh sakes! His New Life Resolution as he graduated college.

I’d better start looking for a place to live, he sadly concluded, exhaling after his first deep drag. Sitting here in the park gave him some space and time to consider his future; a future without Miles.

There you are! Smoking? Ian? Why are you smoking?” Miles approached the bench carrying a small bag. He sat down, gracing Ian with a tender kiss. “Here, open the bag.” Ian removed a can from the bag.

Miles smiled and quietly said, “It’s OK sweetie, I can drink decaf too.”

LOL! Oh my, and that was delightful! It's always sweet and perfectly angst-ridden, in a delightful way! I mean, I was seriously laughing out loud.

Looking forward to you adding more of these. Well done.

Thanks AC, especially from someone who knows how to write!

I don't understand how, but a bunch of these little scenes came tumbling into my mind. I was going to begin a new story, but determined it might be cuter to let the stand-alone scenes define the characters.

Sometimes, our imaginings really are our worst enemy.

From your response to AC, I like the idea of the little scenes. Looking forward to more.. Good job.

Okay, I think I've found my new name for you--SneakyDragon. :)
Of course my own imagination ran away also--god, was their relationship really over? Could it be saved? What had gone so wrong that it could be over? I was ready to jump on Miles if he'd done something so terrible to his partner....
Jeez, I laughed and sighed with the last paragraph...to someone in a new and fragile relationsip, it doesn't take much to make you think the worst.
I'm eager for more, I just hope I'm not wringing my hands through every single one. :)

Nice little scene. It was sweet and a nice reminder not to assume and remember there are two people in a relationship.
Really enjoyed that.

Thanks Tim!

You're sure correct about relationships. Hopefully Ian will begin to understand as this un-story continues.

Yeah, what they said!

Hopefully Ian will learn that it should take a helluva lot more than one little argument to ruin a relationship! All this angst over decaf coffee? (A can - decaf soda? Like Ginger Ale? lol) I know, I know, I'm focusing way too much on the small things. :D

Thanks for the review Lisa!

Unfortunately Ian seems to be slightly insecure ;)

Oh, I think it was coffee. That must have been a can of ground decaf, where they live.

Hey Skinny. I loved this! Sorry, I'm out of likes, but I'll be back. Such a perfect little scene that has a lesson in there about the importance of communication while making me smile, then laugh. I alreadt think these two are adorable. Well done... cheers... Gary...

Hey Gary, thanks so much!

I'm glad you found these. They're fun to write, attempting to make the unrelated scenes define the characters.

Ian is so cute and Miles is so sweet! This made my day

Hey Drew, I'm happy you found these!

Yep! Ian IS something. He hit the jackpot with Miles too.

The first word that came into my mind was 'puppy love'. So true, honest and innocent. Never affected by some aggression and silly fights. I loved how you narrated it. And gives heart warming smiles, but they might look silly though. Lovely.
