Finding Another Like Me. - 2. Chapter 2

It took about 45 minutes for me to get home and once I was there I realized how beat I actually was. I fell down landing face flat on my bed. I groaned thinking about how tired I was. I decided since it was summer, a Wednesday, and I didn’t have to work then I could treat myself to a little nap. I slowly slipped out of my bed and over to my AC turning it on so my room would cool down and then tugged my cargo shorts down and jumped under the covers and fell fast asleep.

It felt so nice laying in his arms. He just felt right. We were laying on a beach looking out as the sun was about to set. I could feel his warm breath as he rested his head on my shoulder. The world felt at peace. All my worries were gone. I heard him whisper in my ear, “this is perfect.” I turned around to face the man who’s arm I was in but what I saw was a face that was blurred. I could make out little about his features, but I still felt safe with…

Ring, Ring, Ring…My eyes opened to reveal I was till laying in my bed and there was no one beside me, besides my phone at this moment was ringing off the hook. Great I thought to myself as a pulled it open and said hello to whoever was on the other line.

“Hey!!!” a perky girls voice said from the other end.

I groaned. “Hi Rachel what’s up?”

“Nothing. What are you up to?” Still way to chipper for myself to deal with.

“I’m laying in bed actually. I was taking a nap. Why what you want?” I knew it was kind of rude and blunt but I was a little grumpy for her waking me up.

“Oh nothing really just wanted to see if you wanted to hang out. It is 6 o’clock there is no need to be sleeping.”

Wow how could I have guessed that? I love the girl dearly and she’s one of my best friends but she is so predictable. Maybe its because she has no other friends but me. Granted that’s cause everyone thinks she’s a slut and realizes she gets annoying after awhile too. But some how I always managed to deal with her…but not tonight I needed some me time. I finally responded, “Uhhhh no. Sorry hun but I’m wicked tired and I don’t really feel good so I’m probably going to just stay in tonight.”

“Come on Kyle! Its summer! You can sleep later.”

Now I was a little agitated. “And I’m hung over good bye!”

I closed my phone and just steered at with a glare that is not usually meant for a phone. Basically I was trying to say. Do not call back or I will freak on you. I knew I was not honestly hung over at all so I guess I felt bad for lying but she is one of those girls that doesn’t understand the point of me time means M-E not W-E.

I realized I probably should get up and see what was going on in my house if it was six o’clock that means dad must be home, which meant dinner must be almost ready. See my dad always gets home around 5 and then makes dinner around 6. Usually its just preparing something mom has already made, but its just because she works crazy hours and usually doesn’t leave work until like 9.

I pulled myself out of bed throwing on my cargo shorts once again and a white beater and walked out of my room. No lights were on in my house which meant it probably wasn’t a good sign. I got too the kitchen and realized no one was home. I reached for the corded phone on the wall and quickly dialed my dads cell phone number. After a few rings he picked up and we had a brief conversation about where everyone was and what was for dinner. Turns out I had missed dinner and my dad wouldn’t be home for another two hours because of my little sister having tumbling class and him having a parents meeting. The life of a competitive cheerleader, I thought.

Now that I honestly thought about it I realized I wasn’t at all hungry. I was just bored and knew that I didn’t want to have to sit around and do nothing all night. Even if it was me time. I quickly hopped in the shower so I didn’t feel as disgusting. It felt refreshing to have the cold water drip over my naked body. I didn’t let it last long because I really wanted to get out so I hoped out of the shower and put on a pair of cargo shorts and a AE t shirt. I topped it off with a little Hollister Jake cologne and was ready to go. Kind of fancy for me time but I liked dressing decent. I grabbed my keys, phone and wallet and headed out the door.

As I hopped in my car I realized I had no clue where I wanted to go. I ruled out being hungry and the beach cause I was already there yesterday. I wanted somewhere knew and just a place where I could relax. I remembered then that they had just built a new movie theatre and shopping center about 5 minutes from my house in the next town over. It was wicked nice and right on the ocean. Perfect spot to walk around. I headed there.

When I arrived a parked and started my adventure through the new shopping center. It was really nice. Not like I was expecting it to be crappy or anything because the town that its in is loaded. However, I realized after walking for a few minutes that it was really to new because most of the stores were still vacant. Lame! I decided the only thing I knew was open for sure was the movie theatre so I headed in that direction.

Fuck! I never looked at the movie times before so there was no good movies playing right away. I decided that I would go see the Hangover but that wasn’t for another hour, so I had time to kill. Instead of going back outside I decided to sit down in the lobby of the theatre and people watch. Favorite past time of mine. I grabbed a soda from the snack stand and sat down one of the tables.

I watched as more people slowly started to come and go. You had families spending the night together going into movies you could tell the mothers picked because they wanted to pick a movie that wouldn’t corrupt their kids. Then you had the kids who were about 13 or 14 in middle school who thought I was just so badass that they were at the movies with their friends and not their parents. Quite funny to watch actually. Then you had the high school clichés. The losers, the emos, the regulars, the snobs, the jocks, and the cheerleaders. All thinking they were so cool but never stopping to actually sit down or pay attention to the kid watching them.

There were some really hot guys that were in these groups. You had the blonde emo kid who was maybe more punk rock than emo but was cute in that I’m a badass kind of way. The jocks well some looked like they took one two many balls off their faces (not sexually I mean.) But there were others that were damn hot. All muscled up and walking like they were the shit. I guess they were if I was steering at them.

Eventually I turn my attention the people surrounding me in the chairs. There was a couple people there on their laptops looking like they were chickening their emails. Then there was a group of kids probably about 15 who were seeing who could chug their soda fastest like a beer. So immature, I thought. That was all to my left though. I finally started to turn right and realized the kid sitting at the table diagonally to the right from me about three feet.

I had to do a double take. I had originally glanced right over him but then I noticed I had missed something. He was smoking hot! He was probably about 6 feet even with brown hair that was long but not girly long. It was in the lacrosse kind of style. He had a chizzled face with prominent cheeks that emphasized his gorgeous blue eyes. They were like a bright blue. Ocean on a sunny day blue. His mouth was filled with pearly white teeth and his lips had that slightly pouty look to them but where very masculine and hot. His body was football like. You could see had muscular arms and through the red and white t shirt that said Hightown Varsity Football he was wearing it looked like he had abs, probably a six pack. His legs were long and thick and featured a nice amount of brown hair on them. He looked god like.

I couldn’t take my eyes of him. I have never seen a guy who interested me so much. My people watching had just become person watching. After what seemed like a wicked long time a what must have been steering. He turned towards me.

“Hey what are you steering at?” He said this in this deep masculine but sexy voice. It made my heart pound.

I stuttered not knowing how to answer him, “Ummm oh sorry.” I paused. “I was just thinking. I must have just steered off.”

He chuckled. “Oh really?”

I knew I was a bad liar to people I knew but there was no way this guy could tell could he. “Yeah.”

“What were you thinking about?”

He was persistent, had to give him that one. But I had no idea what I was going to respond. I tried to come up with another lie. “Ummm I was just thinking….Why a varsity football player is alone at the movies?”

Oh wow that was kind of assholish of me to say to a guy I never met. However, on the other hand I guess it was kind of flirty too.

He chuckled again, “Oh and what tells you I’m alone? And a varsity football player?”

I stopped and thought for a second. I knew I needed a reason now. “Well for one the solo ticket sitting on your table and second you t shirt.”

He looked down to the two items I had pointed out. “Well I guess that is true, but I still don’t understand how it is any of your business,” he responded.

True! “Hmm… well its not I was kind of just people watching before and I just noticed all the different cliques and its rare too see someone who’s a football player and probably popular, alone. Nothing personal bud. Again sorry.”

“Nah man its fine. I was just curious. But wait I could say the same thing about you. Why is an average normal looking dude out by himself on a night like tonight? You don‘t seem like one off the loner freak types.”

“Was that a compliment? Cause I’ll take it as one.” I laughed. “Truth is I’m alone because I wanted some me time. You know time without dealing with other people’s bull shit.”

He broke in hysterics at that one, “I guess then I probably should leave you alone.”

“No!” Hopefully I didn’t shout that. “I was just saying in general. Like my friends have just become a little to much to deal with right now.”

“Yeah I get what you’re saying. Actually that’s why I am here too. Just need a break from being that ‘varsity football player.’” Doing the little quotations with his hands.

He made it very cute. A smile crept across my face. “Well then maybe I can help break away from it for a little. My names Kyle. Kyle Kelly.” I put out my hand for him to shake it.

“Mines Chris. Christopher Thomas.”

“Well nice to meet you, Chris.”

“Yeah you too Kyle. So I’ve never seen you around, do you go to Hightown High?”

“Nah I’m actually from Weytown, but I don’t go to the high school. I go to St. X’s in Westside. What about you?”

“I thought we already established that?”

I laughed. “Yeah I guess we did. What year you in?”

“I’m going to be a senior. What about you?”

“A junior.”

“Nice. What about sports? You play any?”

“Nah. I’m not really good at any and my schools wicked competitive for sports.”

“Yeah I’ve heard those Catholic schools are.”

Our conversation continued for another hour and a half. It was just so easy to talk to him. In that time I learned he was a varsity starting quarterback, an only child with two parents, he had a dog named Buddy who was a golden retriever, his favorite color was red, and favorite TV show was 24, and a lot more. Like I said we just found it easy to talk to each other.

Finally I decided to look down at my phone and saw what time it was. It was 9 o’clock. My mouth fell open.

He looked at me and said, “What’s wrong?”

“Ummm nothing I just didn’t realize what time it was. I guess I missed my movie.” I laughed it off.

He finally pulled out his phone too and looked at the time, “Oh wow your right. I guess I missed mine too. Were you going to see the Hangover?”

“Yeah.”

“Well do you want to go catch it from the middle?”

I thought about it for second. “Nah, no point now. Plus I’m kind of hungry. I might go grab some food somewhere.”

“Well do you mind if I joined you? Because I’ve already seen the movie, plus I’m starving!” he emphasized the last part.

I was so glad he asked. “Yeah definitely. Let’s go”

We started to walk out of the theatre and towards the parking lot and then I had an idea. “Why don’t we walk and go to the 99? There’s nothing open yet in this place and it’s a wicked nice night out.”

“Sure that works.”

We walked across the street to the restaurant. Chris walked a pace or so ahead of me every time cause of his height, but we were still able to keep up a conversation. I even got a nice glimpse of his ass as he was walking. Once we got the restaurant it didn’t take long for us to get seated and we set in the first silence of the night why we looked at the menu.

He finally decided to break it. “So do you know what your getting.”

I looked up from my menu and saw his smiling face as he watched me read. He had actually been watching me as a read the menu. Maybe that’s a sign…wait there is no way he could possibly be gay… “Uhh yeah I think I know.”

At that moment out waitress came over. She was a petite blonde girl probably a little older than us. She wasn’t that pretty, she kind of had that I’m a party girl want to be stripper vibe to her. I wasn’t interested in her and was very surprised at how well Chris dealt around her. Maybe he didn’t go for that type of girl or maybe he was gay.

Once she left the conversation that had been missed all night finally happened.

“So Kyle have any special lady friends?”

I laughed at the way he said it. “Lady friends? Nah not at the moment. Can’t seem to find any that like me. What about you? I doubt you have that problem.”

“What do you mean by that?”

“Well lets see star football player who is wicked hot have a problem finding a girl? Doubtful!”

“Wicked hot? You judging me now buddy?” He said this in an all serious tone.

Oh shit, major slip up. “Nah I was just backing up a point with words.”

“Sure you were!” He said this with a shit eating grin on his face that said he knew he had caught me. I definitely hoped he was faking it though.

The conversation went back to normal after that though. He explain how he didn’t have a girlfriend either at the moment. His exact words were, “I want something a little more special than a high school hook up. I want a real relationship dude. I just haven’t been able to find one.”

“Wow that’s exactly how I feel, beside the fact I can’t find one because no girl likes me. To ugly and fat.” I laughed at myself on that one.

“Man what are you talking about? Why are you putting yourself down like that? You’re not ugly at all and your far from fat. That guy over there is fat. You just need some toning and you’ll be fine.” He pointed over to a guy who looked like he had to be at least 300 pounds across from us and gave me a smile.

I don’t know how to describe the feeling but the way he talked to me and comforted me even when I had only known him for a few hours was amazing. I felt something I hadn’t felt in a long time. I just couldn’t put my finger on it at the moment, because our food came and the conversation was directed at in the direction of our food and the stripper looking waitress.

After dinner we headed back to the shopping center to get our cars. It now was about 10:30 and I had to be home soon.

“So where’s your car parked?” he asked me.

“It’s in the southside lot. Yours?”

“Dude why would you park all the way over there? And mines by the movie theatre, but I’ll walk you to yours.”

“Umm well I thought more was open here so I originally came to walk around but then ended up at the theatre. You don’t have to walk me all the way to my car, I’ll be fine.”

He laughed at me and smiled. “I know you’ll be fine, but I want to!”

“Alright then.” We started to walk towards my car and finally we got to it. It was a grey 2000 Jeep Cherokee and I leaned up on it and faced him.

“So…” I said holding out the last syllable.

“Sooo…” he repeated.

There was a pause in the conversation, seeming like we both didn’t know how we wanted the night to end.

Then he spoke, “Listen Kyle. Tonight was amazing. You’re so different from my other friends, and I found it so easy to talk with you. I had a lot of fun. Dude can we do it again sometime?”

“Yeah definitely.”

And at the moment I stared into his eyes as he looked into mine. I felt my body slowly move in as I watched his body move closer too……..
