Be nice to our delegates, now...

Its cool that we got the convention, but I live not all that far from the stadium complex and right along the major street to the arena. It is going to be an absolute traffic and security nightmare for everyone who lives in South Philadelphia.

I'm still excited for it though, because its going to give massive exposure to the city.

Boston was very nearly a ghost town when the Democrats held their convention here. The city warned the populace about traffic and crowding so well that those that could take off, did. It was one of the easiest times to get around the city as I can remember. Not the least of the bonus was being able to catch a seat at almost any restaurant in town.

Philadelphia in general has a much better transit and road system than Boston, though. I think it's said that's why they picked it. The logistics are going to be easier.

The MBTA transit system doesn't have noticeable difficulties in the summer so I don't think that was a major issue. What was surprising though was that the conventioneers didn't fan out from the immediate area of where the convention was held. Most of the city did not gain the business that was promised from the opportunity.

Philly hosted the Republican Convention back in 2000, and people did fan out from the immediate area, so it's expected to have an economic impact that extends out to northern Delaware.
