Future Anthology Blogs

I have some exciting plans for the anthology blog this year, including a series of writing tips.  I'd like to get an idea of what else authors/readers would like to see here in the Thursday anthology blog.  Please comment or message me about any topics you would like to see addressed, and I will do my best to accommodate.  Also let me know if you like the anthology rewinds, where past anthologies are re-featured.  It's not too early to get started writing for our Poetry Anthology - Diversity or for our annual anthology - Creature Feature!

I'm terrible at poetry. And lyrics. But maybe one day. So, I can't speak for the poetry crowd. This may not be the place to ask it, but is it too hard on the team to offer multiple themes?

My prompt for the last Prompt Event had an A or B and I was glad of it. So, I just wondered why everything else doesn't also?

For example (and I don't mean it has to be right now) but Diversity as option A, Family as option B...Creature Feature as option A, Suspense Thriller as option B etc.? I'd throw in an option C, but that's when anyone that is highly indecisive (like my best friend) would never be able to choose...sometimes just one or the other is plenty.

We've done multiple themes in the past in an effort to draw more participants into writing for the anthology. I would say we had mixed results.  I did a poll a few years ago and the overwhelming majority voted for one theme.  Good anthology themes should be open to multiple interpretations and multiple genres.  Your example of a suspense thriller is perfect.  Creature Feature on its surface screams horror, but it also fits just about any other genre as well.  One of my plans for the blog this year is to feature articles on writing for different genres, so your comment fits perfectly into my plans.  I feel like I want a devil emoji here, but they're not evil plans   :P

Well, for my part, I'm glad. One theme, ergo, no dithering, no excuses, lol. It would probably cost me an entire month to choose.

In the past, the authors met in the anthology discussion thread and talked about their difficulties with the theme, for example, how far they are in writing the story, and teased each other sometimes. It was always fun. After the stories were live, we would always read the other authors' stories and, if possible, react and/or comment on them. I liked that, but this isn't in your hands @Valkyrie of course.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading your plans.

I really liked that camaraderie too.  I admit to being lax in posting the threads last year. I will plan on creating them this weekend and will be sure to check in regularly.  Let's get the discussion started!

On Creature Feature interpretation: Mine isn't horror, but parts of it might come off as horrific. 🤔

On Feature Articles for Different Genres: Let's go!! Can't wait to see them as they come out! 🎉

I think my record is four stories for one anthology.  We used to do four anthologies per year.  I think if we still did that, that would kill me  :P

One of the subjects I have planned for this year's blog is writing to a theme that doesn't "speak" to you.

That...is a problem I don't have, they all speak to me. All prompts, all themes...I just can't write them all out. 🤣

Of course. I've been plotting since the minute I saw it. It was like 2025's anthology had my name stamped all over it. 😂
