2026 Poetry Anthology - Choices - **Now Live**

It's time to celebrate National Poetry Writing Month by releasing the first set of poems for the GA annual Poetry Anthology - Choices!  It's always interesting to read the different takes on the anthology theme, and this year is no exception.  Please show support for our site poets and anthology participants by reacting, commenting, or reviewing their poetry.  Stay tuned next week for even more poems!

**Last Call**

There's a little over a week to get submissions for the poetry anthology posted to the anthology forum.  So there's still time to choose to participate and share your poetry with GA.

2026 Poetry Anthology - *Important Announcement*

I have good news if you're on the fence or thinking you don't have enough time to get something written for our annual poetry anthology!  I've extended the deadline to April 6th, so you have an extra week to submit your poetry for inclusion in the anthology   So, if you haven't started yet, there's still time.

National Poetry Writing Month

April is National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo), which is why we choose to feature our poetry anthology then.  What is NaPoWriMo? It's a time to honor all things poetic and also to encourage people to give writing it a try.  Like National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in November, there's a challenge to be attempted.  Write thirty poems in thirty days.  Several site members have tackled this challenge, and continue to do so.  The goal isn't to write perfect poetry, but simply to get somethi

Poetry Anthology Check-in

There's a little over one month to go before our annual poetry anthology goes live, so it's time to check in and see how everyone is coming along.  I have some ideas, but haven't put them to paper yet.  Feel free to share a snippet or how many poems you've written or plan to write.

More Poetry Help

Last week, we explored Haiku as an introduction to writing poetry.  This week, I'd like to discuss free verse.  Remember that poetry does not have to incorporate rhyming or meter or stick to a particular form.  Free verse embraces that concept, which gives the writer virtually unlimited freedom to express their thoughts.  Free verse does not follow any particular form or rhythm.  It tends to follow natural speech patterns, but doesn't have to.  I think of poetry as painting word pictures - it's

I've Never Written Poetry Before - Help!

Writing poetry can be an intimidating prospect when you've never done it before, but it doesn't have to be.  Like our Poetry Anthology theme this year - Choices - you can choose to give it a go and see how it turns out.  Many people think of things like sonnets, ballads, iambic pentameter, and rhyming when it comes to poetry.  Meter, form, and structure, oh my!  Some of these forms intimidate even seasoned poets.  But we don't need to be Shakespeare to express ourselves.  Start simple.   Ha

**2026 Anthology Announcement**

It's here!  The moment we've all been eagerly waiting for!  It's time to announce the 2026 Anthology theme!  But before we do, you know we like to keep everyone on their toes, so there's a bit of a twist for 2026.   This year we decided on.... Two themes!  So if one doesn't strike your fancy, hopefully the other one will.  Ideally, both will inspire authors to write a story for each.  So without further ado, here are the themes for the 2026 GA Anthology! Antholology Flashback - 2006 - Blizzard

Hello everyone.  @Valkyrie is pretty tied up so she asked me to help out with promoting some older Anthologies.  We haven't done an Anthology Flashback in awhile, but given the long range weather forcasting for the rest of January, I figured our 2006 Anthology with the theme of Blizzard would be greeted warmly. Keep an eye out, as the team is working on the the 2026 Anthology Theme, which will be launching soon. Without further ado, here are our 2006 - Blizzard entries:

2026 Poetry Anthology Announcement

The GA Poetry Anthology is returning for 2026 with the theme "Choices"!  We face all different kinds of choices in life, so this would be a great opportunity to explore some of them.  I look forward to reading what our site poets come up with!   Submitted poems will be featured throughout the month of April to celebrate National Poetry Month. I will work on getting the threads set up in the anthology forum and the event posted. Give me a little time to get that done.    2026 Poetry Ant

Looking Ahead

Now that the anthology deadline has passed, it's time to look to what's next on the GA Writing Event agenda while we wait for the anthology stories to go live.  You guys were total rock stars this year, with 23 Secret Author stories, 17 tribute stories, and 8 poetry collections.  I challenged authors to at least meet, and hopefully surpass, the number of SA stories for the anthology.  Was that goal met?  You'll have to wait till next Thursday to find out     Our next writing event will be t

One More Week!

Who's frantically writing and working to get their story done in time for the deadline?   While I don't have the official number of stories submitted yet, I can say we are very close to matching the number of Secret Author stories.  This is going to be a great anthology, so stay tuned!   The Proof Team is hard at work proofreading the stories that have been submitted so far.  Please be patient as more stories are coming in every day, and we are volunteers with a life outsid

Two Weeks!

There are just two weeks left to get stories sent to me for the Proof Team to review.  From the selection I've read so far, this is going to be a great anthology! The Proof Team has been hard at work, but we're always eager for more, so keep sending me your creatures to feature!   Hmmm... maybe something a bit scarier? Nah... scarier.  That'll do

The Proof is in the... Creature Feature!

What does the Anthology Proof Team do?  Once your anthology story is finished and edited, then it's time to send it to me so I can assign a Proof Team member to give it a final once-over.  Why do we do this? To ensure that stories meet site guidelines and basic editing standards.  We look for anything the author and their team may have missed - misspelled words, misused words, unintentional grammar mistakes, punctuation.  I have a great team of knowledgeable proofreaders ready to go with their r
