Sometimes torture is good

Last night I got an IM from someone I know who is pretty much against all republicans no matter what the issue is. Usually, I am too, but I think they're right when it comes to defending the US from terrorism. Well anyway, she IM's me about some lunatic named Kieth Olberman, who has some show no one watches on MSNBC. He goes off on the president whenever he has a chance, but intellegent people pay him no mind because he's a loser.

Anyway, I hate Bush for his politics. I hate that he wants to give old people prescription drugs and that he says he wants to ban gay marriage even though he's never actually tried. I also hate him because he called the US a democracy, and it isn't. The US is a republic, and only morons and people who don't understand our system of government don't know that.

So anyway, Bush pretty much sucks, but he's right when it comes to the war on terror. People who say we shouldnt be in Iraq are fooling themselves. We're in a war against terror, and Saddam Hussein was financing terrorism by paying Palestinian suicide bombers' familes 25000 dollars for them to go into Isreal and blow themselves up. I just wish Bush would have said that was the reason we went. Instead, he said we were going for the WMD's, which Saddam had, but was able to smuggle to Syria before we invaded.

Bush is also right that we have a responsibility to get information from terrorists we capture, no matter what we have to do to them. If it comes down to the life of my dad, my stepmom , my boyfriend and the rest of my family or a terrorist not being tortured, you're damn ass right I'm going to pick my family. People who think it's more important to be nice and sensitive to terrorists who want to murder us all for not believing in their sick idea's is a moron, and I'm not sorry to say it.

So anyway, my friend is a little mad at me right now because I told her how I felt, and she thinks I'm wrong. I think she's wrong, and I wonder how she could feel that way when she has a husband and kids of her own that the terrorists would love to kill. I guess it just goes to show that when you're dealing with a weak party like the democrats, nothing should shock me.

Well, I agree with Nick on his post. I don't like what is going on and it is just nuts. We are the most powerful country on the face of the earth, why can't we just be done with this? Who are we afraid off. We need to get this done and over with and focus on Iran, but we are spread to thin right now.

Oh, Micheal, one thing Nick has said that is gay is that he has a boyfriend :lmao:

Have good one all.

Hugs,

Okay... first, you really need understand the concept of context. Words have different meanings and you figure out what meaning is meant by the context in which the word is used. Democracy is used in the general sense of a government based on freedom of the people via the people's control of government. There are varying degrees as to how it is employed, but democracy is the catch word in modern society.

Second, Bush hasn't gone out of his way to ban gay marriage because it ranks relatively low on his priorities for political capital expenditure, but he does support the lunatics who do. As the president he took an oath to uphold the constitution which includes the separation between church and state as it is outlined in the first amendment - "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". It is the right of the people to believe whatever they want about marriage and it has been a part of his agenda to assert certain beliefs with clear religious connotation upon those who care not for it. He has willfully participated in the rallying of congress members to violate the constitution to that effect. So yes, he has indeed tried to ban gay marriage. Did he go about it half-assed? Yes, but he has tried.

I supported the invasion, and he may or may not have smuggled wmds off to syria but we have found the bioweapons labs and caches of chemical weapons as well as numerous delivery devices he agreed not to have at the end of the first Gulf war. The war itself was brilliantly executed, yes, but this occpation was absolutely pathetic. I'd rather go through the steps of kill dictator, watch the chaos that follows, repeat as necessary every ten years. It would certainly be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Bush is also right that we have a responsibility to get information from terrorists we capture, no matter what we have to do to them. If it comes down to the life of my dad, my stepmom , my boyfriend and the rest of my family or a terrorist not being tortured, you're damn ass right I'm going to pick my family. I see where you're coming from, but there is no way to know either that the terrorist being tortured knows anything in the first place, or that he's a terrorist to start with. If, as you mentioned, he happens to have been captured while engaged in combat with American troops then we may be able to verify he's a terrorist, but not that there's any information in his head. The way cells are structured is such that as little information as possible is carried by the members therein, precisely to avoid the compromisation of that information. They can't tell you what they don't know, which results in torture without any purpose but the torturer's sadism. This aside, there's also the issue that the President now has the authority to declare anyone he pleases to be an enemy combatant, and make them disappear into a cozy little torture chamber. We the people are not exempt, we the people are now subject to the whim of one man while the semblance of democratic government that remains is composed (currently) mostly of his party. We the people are on the verge of becoming they, the tools and disposable property of the US government.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm all for killing terrorists. I just find it reprehensible that the man in charge of doing so has spent most of his time killing the constitutional rights of american citizens.

I don't know her circumstances or exactly what it was that passed between you two, but while I see terrorists who want to kill me, I'm also wary of the President who supports those here at home who also want to kill me and very unhappy about the fact that should they get into power... well, they view you, me, and everyone like us as national security threats since they believe god will smite the country because of us. How long do you think it would be before we'd get rounded up and either executed on the spot or sent to "reeducation" camps. I'm all for fighting terrorists. I'm also entirely against giving power to people who will use it against me. That includes this president, and likewise his friends.

We are morally superiour to all nations anyway...we give our money to everyone, and they bad mouth us in return. Tax dollars that come from Americans are given away to poor countries that ought to be finding a way to exist on thier own, and yet, somehow we're this awful nation with no morals? Give me a break.

Morality isn't measured by how much money you throw at people.

Second, we weren't founded on principals, we were founded on liberty. The people rule this nation, not one person or a few guys in a room in the Whitehouse. The people elected George Bush twice, and it infuriates the democrats that not only did he stomp Gore and Kerry, but he also has both houses of Congress. Most likely, he'll keep them in November too.

Liberty is a principle, among several others that this nation was founded upon.

You say that we were once the greatest nation on earth, but I think you need to look around...we're still the greatest nation on earth......I wouldn't move to another country for all the money in the world, and even if the terrorists were fighting us right here on our own soil, I'd want to stay here and fight. I'm not saying you wouldn't either, but I bet most of your sissy democrat friends wouldn't be willing to do that

Whats make America great is that it can change, recognize the mistakes of a long legacy of prejudice and cease reproducing those mistakes. "Torture = bad" is not a new concept, its one that was figured out hundreds of years ago and abolished by every freedom inclined country. We're taking a step backwards, becoming worst than we were before, not better. That is fundamentally bad for humanity and we as Americans are the ones who will suffer the consequences of it.

Here's the problem, Aaron....we're really fighting an enemy that wants to kill us.....remember 9-11? They came here and attacked us first, and now we're fighting them in their land. If we weren't doing it there, we'd have to do it here.

Then ought we not kill them back rather than destroying our own principles?

I would think that anyone who wants to kill people who don't believe the same things they do are facists, like Hitler was. Remember the holocaust?

I remember that the theocrats at home are as bad as the ones abroad and the fact that their supporters carry a considerable portion of the vote reminds me that I don't want the government having the kind of power where when they get it they use it to round me up and torture me.

Hey Nick

I went once again through all the comments.

I find the best is from Michael :

"In fact you have a talent for making people's blood boil, and that's why we all love you so much. Hey Nick, why don't you write a poem about the 9/11 attack? I know it's going to be a very painful and powerful poem, and it will certainly make people's blood boil."

You are an ardent young man, but you should keep your temper. because the "truths" you bring so passionate are not always verified. If you had still in the US a compulsory military service, as it was years ago, I would propose you to experiment yourself fighting against all the ennemies of your country, as your fathers did in Korea and Viet-Nam, so you would really learn what you are only talking about. No one should talk about war as you do, who wasnt himself in a field of battle (did you see the movie "Apocalypse now ?).

I was a soldier, than an officer, and I was lucky to live in a country which wasnt in a war since 1847, but I saw and followed the battles at our borders. I have my opinion about the position of your government in Irak, but I keep it for myself ! But Im happy that so many people try to explain you that you should compare your "hot" feelings with the daily living of your soldiers on the front and have a better notion of the principles of the american democracy and of the convent of Geneva (International Red Cross)

farewell

I dont mean to be offensive, Dezlboi, but I really have no patience for the left or the right.....the only good thing about the right is that they can defend us. The left cant. It's just that simple. But I hate the right too. I'm a Christian, but the way other "Christians" act is shameful, and the right wing politicians love it and feed on it.

I just wish the Dumocrats and the Repukes would go away. They're both homophobic elitest parties, and they commit treason against this nation everyday. Everytime George Bush says he wants to use the constitution, a document that is there to limit the power of the federal government, to take rights away from people. he commits treason. Everytime the democrats say our troops are committing atrocities in Iraq when all they're doing is fighting in a war, which is their job, they commit treason. No one pays attention to the constitution anymore, and they're ruining our country.

Actually Bob Im going to join the Army if I can and go to Iraq or Afganistan or anywhere they need me to go.

Wow... I like it when your engagement strengthen your words. You are a man :worship:

I my country, each citizen, when he is healthy enough, is proud to serve, as I was. I hope to meet you again on GA (chat or blog) in a few years, when you will come back from the Army.
