Here's your chance to give your opinion on this wonderful story.

All righty then, why don't I do that.

I like it very much. So, does this story takes place in the 60's? That's cool as a big chunk of my teenage years happened around then. Actually, all of them did. I'm also one of those dudes who remembers exactly where he was when John Kennedy was assasinated in 1963. Yes, the Beatles were the rage. Anyway, enough about me. B)

There were a lot of characters introduced in this first chapter, many were just names, though. Your writing flows very well, a nice read. It was definitely a time when mental illness was poorly understood. "Crazy" people were shunned and feared. Of course, homosexuality was still treated as a mental illness then as well.

I must admit, Uncle Jerry, war hero or not, is a bit scary. I'm quite curious about him and whether Geoff will take him up on his offer to talk. I'll just have to wait and see.

I'm looking forward to more.

Kennedy died when I was in the Lunch Room (It was a cafeteria, but it was called the Lunch Room.) at Thompson Junior High, Seattle, WA, USA. We had junior high (grades 7 thru 9) back then, but I didn't carry that forward to this story, even though it takes place in 1965/66, because I wanted one of the characters to be introduced later to be a freshman in high school, an experience I didn't get to dread.

I was kind of like Geoff back then, but at least I knew who the Beatles were. I was very much interested in classical and big band jazz at the time and rock music kind of went over my head. I remember arguing with a neighbor that John Philip Sousa was more enjoyable than the Lovin' Spoonful, who I liked very much, too, but not enough to be better than a Sousa march. Quite frankly, I still put Sousa above the Lovin' Spoonful, but I have both in my iTunes collection.

And, thank you for your continued interest in this story. Hopefully it will continue to the end.

This story has a most intriguing narrator, great characters, very evil villains and lots of action. It is, of course, very well written, and should leave you puzzled and wondering what's going to come up next. Nice job, CH.

Hey Carl,

I just came to read the first chapters of your story :worship: .

As you say : "a bit of insanity, some silliness, and a bit of sadness"

I would say : "a lot of insanity, huge amount of silliness, and sadness rubbed off through dry humor" !!

You write and describe your characters like an entomologist observing the life of a settlement of ants or flies :P . Everybody is really crazy, and I like it !

And what I especially appreciate : nobody knows where the next chapters will go.

I'm anxious to read more

Take care on the road and, as Kevin says "have a great day!"

Chapter 14 was superb, Carl! :worship: Like Geoff, I'm starting to warm up to the good doctor.

I have to keep reminding myself that this story takes place when homosexuality was classified as a mental disorder. It makes me wonder what other disorders may one day be "declassified" and thrown back into the pool of normal human behaviour.

I just finished it. All of it in one sitting. Leave it to Carl to come up with the most unusual story lines. This was fantastic from the unique nutzo pesona's to the nutball shrink.

I must admit that the shrink killing himself and the sister red flagged as a bailout maneuver and then when the gay uncle not letting him come back was even more out of place with the characters. It was a rushed out feeling to exit a storyline that was no longer viable.

Having said that, the characters were believable had depth and flesh. It was a great story and I enjoyed it tremendously.

Cheers
