old bob Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Hey just wanted to say I love this story and it's predecessor, but please - less intrigue and more romance!!! I dont agree with the last part of your comment . We are a lot who want both and 50/50 intrigue/romance is at least a good average. BTW, if you look back in the first chapters and in the other stories written by CJ, he is a really specialist of intrigue and no so skilled in "romance" ( He said it himself in a comment of one of his first stories). The main reason is that "romance" stories dont need cliffangers, which is the special pleasure of CJ .
Sir Galahad Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I have to agree with Bob on this one, the intrigue is what makes this story & it's predecessor what they are. IMHO CJ has struck the right balance between the two, to much romance & stories kinda get predictable, & dare I say it, dull! We all like sex scenes, but if you had pages of the stuff, it gets a tad samey. After all, we all like a good cliffhanger, however annoying it may seem at the time.
Site Moderator TalonRider Posted March 4, 2009 Site Moderator Posted March 4, 2009 I like it when the authors leaves something for the imagination. And CJ's definitely done that.

I am not talking about sex, heck you can get that anywhere, I am talking about the ROMANCE, the budding feelings and the growing relationship of these characters, I seriously don't care about these "national" intrigue characters, you could strip them from the story and it would stand by itself. My point is there is way too much of it! Some chapters are almost ALL intrigue and not enough of the main characters except for maybe a paragraph or 2.

I've never been able to set a story on just romance. I've tried, it's just not me. I think I could do a short story that was mainly relationship... and come to think of it, my first one, "No Shirt? No Problem!" was. But a novel? I have a feeling that if I tried, I'd end up creating the world's best cure for insomnia. I like it when the authors leaves something for the imagination. I have to keep the two story timelines synced (roughly speaking, the same day in each) otherwise the rejoin would make little sense. That's why there are some chapters with nothing of the General's storyline, and some with very little of Eric's. The ones that are posting at the moment are, due to timeline constraints, heavy on the General's story, but that won't be the case for long. Hang in there for a couple more chapters. Actually, I just checked, and chapter 30 looks close to half Eric's storyline. Interestingly, I have other readers who would prefer the story without Eric and Instinct. They've said so, via e-mail. Loudly and sometimes profanely. LoL. CJ

Sorry, I think you misunderstood what I meant, re-reading I should have made it clearer. I was just using sex as an example. Sometimes when you read stories it has pages of the stuff, & as I said it gets tirsome. Same could be said for romance, chapter after chapter is not necessarily a good thing. I mean, that's the way I look at it, others will have differing opinions. For me I tend to switch off after a while on solely romantic stories, so I avoid them when I can.
