Definitely: base word is define; loose meanings are: sure or absolute, fixed or clearly understood.

Defiantly: base word is Defy; loose meanings are: oppose or resist, fight, argue or disagree.

Also, please check inappropriate usage of suite versus suit and quite versus quiet.

Editors: ARE YOU ADDING THIS TO YOUR LISTS?!?!? I don't post often in the writers' usage forums, please take notes!

Thanks! thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

You need to edit the title of this thread. You've got "definitely" spelled wrong.biggrin.gif

Thank you, Mark. I DID do that on purpose...for obvious reasons. Glad to see that you're one author that, at least, has some sympathy for his editors and readers--sorry you were the only one to so respond in just over 24 hours.

While you're adding to your notes, please note, that using all caps for emphasis isn't necessary. Use italics and/or bold.

The definitely and defiantly thing might just be a spell check issue; I know that for the longest time every time I tried to spell definitely the spell check would resolve it to 'defiantly'.

I only did that to make it easier to read at a glance...I didn't mean to shout.
