Moral Inequality

Recommended Posts

Some straights are real douche bags. That's also true of some gays. Being married doesn't make you a good person, but good people should not be denied the right to marry.

Use the 'insert media' button in the post reply window. It's the one that looks like a collection of Polaroid pictures :) It doesn't work for all media sources, but it does for youtube at least :P

*edit* As seen above, it only links the url versus embedding the video for vimeo.

If anything, gay people will take marriage more seriously instead of taking it for granted like a lot of straight people do. I'm not saying that all of them do, but there are a lot more than there should be.

So, let me get this straight…Charlie Sheen can make a “porn family”, Kelsey Grammar can end a 15 year marriage over the phone, Larry King can be on divorce #9, Britney Spears had a 55 hour marriage, Jesse James and Tiger Woods, while married, were having sex with EVERYONE. Yet, the idea of same-sex marriage is going to destroy the institution of marriage? Really?

The BIG GAY AGENDA doesn't have to destroy heterosexual marriage. It looks like heterosexuals are doing a fine job of it on their own without any help from us.

I had to get rid of my original post because I realized this wasn't the soapbox, and I'm ever-wary as a new member of overstepping my bounds : P

Instead I will say that I whole heartedly agree, and leave out my pointed references and loudly exclaimed citations.

I was struck by the brilliance of a recent blog posting:

I think you'd find that a lot of people who are against gay marriage are also against divorce and see that since divorce has been become so easy the institution has been considerably weakened so I am not sure this blog post was all that brilliant.

Plus celebrities aren't exactly known for their stable and healthy relationships so they're probably not the best example to use. There are plenty of non-famous straight people that can't handle marriage and they prove the point a lot better I think.

I think the point here was not that anyone thinks them the picture of morality or health, but that no one is lobbying against their ability to be able to live this lifestyle.

Listing them like that and remembering others like it just makes me laugh and at the same angry that straight people take marriage, and divorce for that matter, for granted.

I may technically be bisexual but I am married so I look straight to the outside world. But I think everyone should be able to marry the love of thier life. Gender isn't as important as love. If the straight people don't like it then they should be asking themselves why. Because to me that's an affront to love. And I'm pretty sure from the whole 'god' perspective that he's not gonna give a shit what gender you or your partner are as long as you love each other.

As for using celebreties as an example, i think it fits just fine. At the end of the day they are just average people, the difference between them and us is that they have media constantly portraying thier stupidities.

i have the perfect example of the supposedly 'unflappable institution of marriage' all of the following are hetero marriages:

my mothers father: divorce once never remarried

my mothers mother: exact number of marriages unknown 4+

my fathers parents: both married twice

my mother:married twice

my father: about to end his fourth marriage in less that 23 years

brother: divorced once

uncle:divorced twice

cousin: divorced three times

thus proving that hetero marriages are just as f-d up as any gay relationship could ever be

Marriage was originally a form of a business contract. I don't understand why anyone would want to demean their love with a marriage. Why not just make a vow and keep it?

Oh...that's what marriage is supposed to be...?

Hmmm... so let me get this straight... You make a vow and keep it, but only a man and a woman can make that vow? I disagree, it's possible for two men or two women to make a vow to share their life, love, and whatnot. So the question becomes "are two men or two women allowed to marry.

Now, I don't know about you guys, but that word, allow.... Who the hell has the right to tell me how I may or may not express my feelings toward another human? What sort of presumptuous thinking is that?

And on the flip side... Why would anyone want to demean their love by saying it isn't valid unless recognized by the state/religion/god/toothfairy?

I know this may seem counter to what the general sentiment is, but I just really think marriage isn't all that it's cracked up to be, and perhaps government should not recognize and bestow any "tax benefits" to forms of human relationships. The thing that makes a relationship last is commitment, and I would think that twenty years of commitment without any social support means a heckuva lot more than twenty years of legally sanctioned marriage.

At least without marriage, you know they love each other.
