Site Administrator wildone Posted April 19, 2012 Site Administrator Posted April 19, 2012 http://ca.news.yahoo.com/gay-activist-killed-assault-halifax-police-suspect-custody-182006831.html Unfortunately a main Gay Activist in Halifax was killed outside a gay bar last night in a brutal beating. He was killed by a man who was on a one hour pass from a psychiatric hospital. I don't want to make this political in any way, please. I just want to pay respect to someone who did a lot for the LGBT community in Halifax and has left much too early
paya Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 The problem is, after this guy's experience, who would be willing to take after him and go on in work for the benefit of the gay community? And risk that after they let out yet another lunatic for "an hour walk" they might never come back home?
Johnathan Colourfield Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Horrible horrible experience for anyone. I feel sorry for his family
Former Member Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Yes Matt, It's Canada we give out Pysch pass's to Pyscho's, The guy who chopped off the dude's head on the Greyhound bus gets 1hr mall pass's. Also this is why you make sure to go with lots of people and stay in big groups, the whole safety in numbers things,
Zombie Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Dreadful. Maybe it wasn't gay-related - the report says the victim "tried to break up a fight between two men" - but it doesn't make it any less terrible. Sadly it's not just Canada where this happens: http://www.bbc.co.uk...tshire-15834042 I assume there'll be a full inquiry into what happened, a public report and appropriate action including: Who was responsible and accountable for his risk classification? Who was responsible and accountable for signing off the one hour pass? Were there adequate processes for all stages of this guy's treatment? Were adequate procedures in place for every process? Was there full compliance with all these processes? Recommended changes needed to prevent this happening again. Prosecutions if criminal negligence is suggested. No consolation to his loved ones, but they deserve no less.
