Former Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Just wondering what you do when you know you need to write, but want to do anything but. I personally play minesweeper.
Site Administrator Cia Posted June 14, 2013 Site Administrator Posted June 14, 2013 Read, read, read. I'd rather be reading than writing ANY time. It'll always be my favorite thing to do, tbh. 2
Thorn Wilde Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I mostly just aimlessly poke about on the Internet, or I watch movies or TV-shows or play Skyrim. There's no end to the stuff I will do to get out of writing when I don't feel like it. Sometimes I'll even start cleaning the house...
Site Administrator Cia Posted June 14, 2013 Site Administrator Posted June 14, 2013 what's your favorite genre to read? Hmm... tough to say. It all depends on my mood. Books are like flavors to me; I'm always trying something new and then going back to old favorites.
Former Member Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 If you can't tell I'm procrastinating in this post. *sheepish* I also tend to over organize things. And I'll organize my story so it makes me think that I'm not procrastinating.
Former Member Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 Cracked. I always read cracked. I was so happy when I found out it wasn't blocked!
Thorn Wilde Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Tumblr is a procrastination machine. I once spent three hours on a porn blog... At least it gave me some inspiration.
Former Member Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 SHHHHHH. I miss tumblr almost as much as I miss facebook and youtube. You make my heart ache!
Thorn Wilde Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 SHHHHHH. I miss tumblr almost as much as I miss facebook and youtube. You make my heart ache! When you return to the real world we'll have to follow each other.
Former Member Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 Pssssh. That's provided I even START a tumblr. If I need to, I use my brother's. ...and unless you don't mind a sh*t ton of weed and other drug references/pictures, I suggest not following him. teehee...it's hard to believe that we're related sometimes.
RobsWriting Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Quite often, I find myself mooching through this forum. Guess what I am meant to be doing with my story at the moment. On the other hand, reading here lets me keep in touch and get advice and also warms up my fingers ahead of tackling my story.
Sasha Distan Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 not sure riding and working on the farm counts as procrastinating. but mostly i watch things on You Tube, ASMR videos and ols episodes of Nurse Jackie.
Former Member Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 Lately, I've found myself schmoozing this site a lot less, but it is always a common form of getting away from things I don't want to write. Lots and lots of minesweeper, guys. Minesweeper. All the time.
Qboi1956 Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I have trouble with this and the main reason I intially decided to join this site. I see my procrastination as a kind of avoidance of dealing with whatever it is that is blocking me psychologically from getting on with my writing. Have one story (novel) on the go and several plot lines mulling about in my head. I'd love some advice on this... My tactics- read, peruse the interweb, play Assassin's Creed (anyone who knows me knows that is a desperate measure, seeing how awful I am at console games)... lots of information going in but not much being produced. Why am I avoiding my writing? Q.
Former Member Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 I know your pain. I really do. I joined the site so I could stop procrastinating writing too. ...unfortunately, it has turned into it's own procrastination machine in itself. ...especially chat...
KHCombe Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I can identify myself with the 'blocking' thing. It's weird; sometimes I get really enthousiastic about writing, open one of my Word-files and then proceed to close it again because I don't feel like writing. Listening/playing music, however, seems to always work for me.
Former Member Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 Work to...motivate you or distract you, lol? If I get really into the music, it's almost as bad as anything. Especially when I'll dance around my too-small apartment singing at the top of my lungs so that my landlord five floors down can hear me...heh...heh...
KHCombe Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Haha, well it helps I can't sing and dance (and don't dare to). And I mostly listen to classical music (while writing, that is!), baroque operás etc. It takes a lot of self confidence to sing along with a Händel aria... Tried it once and pretty much suffocated halfway through. I reserve dEUS and Arcade Fire for moments I really don't have to concentrate ;-)
