I thought that as the Brotherhood is growing it would be good to start to track it's members. AND their sponsors if we find out who they are. To keep it all together, copy the list and add the person:

So Here we go.

The Duke of Clarence

Granger - Sponsor = Arthur Teasdale

Cavendish

Aurthur Teasdale

Sir Phillip Kerry

Travers - Deceased

Captain Archibald Sommers

Lt Jardines

This is supposed to be a secret brotherhood.  It's membership is bound by honor to protect that secret  I guess all of us will have to kill you on sight for exposing some of our members.    :fight:

That could be fun if I get to choose my method of going.

While we are on the subject of killing Ricky for outing the brotherhood, there is one question that keeps haunting me as not making much sense.

Why did they brand the left hand?  Did people back then shake left handed?  The right hand would seem to make more sense, then you could tell your brothers when you shook hands and didn't have to hold hands to find out?

A very good question and one I asked myself. Originally I thought it WAS on the right but Granger made the comment, "You can tell by the brands on our left wrists ..."

I figured I pissed enough people off with my bazillion questions that I wasn't going to ask. Besides, I knew you were knit picky enough to do it for me. :P

I would like to know this too.

The only two members that I can think of off the top of my head that have been mentioned by name that are not on the list are:

Iggy, Lord Calverton son of the Earl of Bromfield

Marquess of Blankford, the son of the Duke of Marlborough

Can anyone else think of any others?

p.s.  George Spencer-Churchill was the Marquess of Blandford, different spelling from this story, during the 1790's.  He actually came into the title of the Duke of Marlborough in 1817 upon the death of his father.  He was given the courtesy title of Marquess of Blandford upon his birth in 1866.

I thought it was indeed Lord Blandford.  Lord Blankford is George's brother, Freddie.

Hmmm, oh well, I will have to go back and see; I just remember thinking the name was wrong at the time...  Of course, it wouldn't be the first time I confused to men...

Okay, went back to HMS Belvidera and well damn, you were right...  I just hate it when my memory goes on something...

Since Mark has chosen not to enlighten us on why he chose to brand the left hand, we will just to have to accept it as something we may never understand. I am surprised that any of them ever found another member.

I forgot to answer that. This is one of those errors that actually works out OK. I should have said right hand. However, men of that era, as I understand it, didn't really shake hands as we do. They would sometimes grab both hands if it was a friend.

Thanks for the explanation Mark. Now I won't stay up at night wondering.     :worship:

That would take out a third or more of the reviewers and over a quarter of the posters.

Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound.

Its Major (not Lt) Jardines.

Travers (R.I.P.) was provisional pending his completion of the ceremony and Arthur was his sponsor.

Dead man walking (from the 'Green Mile',I really like that movie).

Well, I do hope that Granger eventually gets to that gathering at Stonehenge to give us a few more names...

There's an interesting storyline: an 18th century Bacchanalian orgy.

Nah. Everyone's EXPECTED to sleep around. To make a controversy you'd have to have a bus load of drunk Westborrow baptists stop at the Stone Henge Roadside Rest stop. 0.0  W A I T a minute, maybe you've GOT something there. :funny:

The only one left I can think of might be his grandfather.

Dead man walking.

Now THAT is a real interesting thought. Perhaps we will find that out in time but he made no mention of seeing the brand. Perhaps Mark will comment. Nobody has said where or when the brotherhood was started.

In the next chapter, you'll meet someone you never dreamed we'd encounter.
