Was gonna go with my mum, but her body isn’t up to it (it’s a back + hip thing), so I’m going on my own, and now my social anxiety is flaring up in a big way. There will be people there I know, but I haven’t arranged to meet anyone, so I feel like it’s gonna be really awkward... You'll have a good time. It's something you love. 5 1

Too bad I can't share them with my mother. The designated punishment for cursing was having one's mouth washed out with soap, a regular event in my childhood, even when the only words in my swearing vocabulary were "jobbie, wee-wee, toilet!" I think you can guess the first given the more-common second one. I'll pass those links on to a few fellow foul-mouths. urggg i remember the soap, pink Lifebouy and you weren't allowed to spit or rinse...shudder... 8 minutes ago, Mikiesboy said: we just got the belt got that once for a lie and once when i pushed my kid sister down tbe stairs 2 1

Mikiesboy Posted December 15, 2018 Author Posted December 15, 2018 So we have all the tales of corporal punishment used on us ... so who thinks it changed their behaviour even a little bit. i vote no it didn't 2

Site Moderator Reader1810 Posted December 15, 2018 Site Moderator Posted December 15, 2018 @Mikiesboy So, ❄️❄️❄️ on your birthday, eh? Hope it’s bright and sunny, too. 3 1
Kitt Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 (edited) Didn't change my behavior at all. In fact once when I was about 16 ish, mom grabbed a fist full of my hair and started dragging me towards my room while "grounding" me. I grabbed a fist full of her hair and told her quite calmly I would let go when she did, then we could talk, but as long as she thought she could manhandle me she would get it right back. It really wasn't in character for her to get physical, and to this day I have no idea why she did, but was no way I was going to go there. Too many of my friends had been abused. 8 minutes ago, Mikiesboy said: so ... i'm betting you didn't do this crap with your kids Nope. I found throwing a "mommy fit" much more effective. Thorn Wilde Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Thanks, everyone. I found someone I know. Having a beer. Music is good. About the swearing, though... isn’t it bizarre, really? We’ve constructed these languages, pure inventions of ours, and have arbitrarily decided that there are some words in those languages you’re not allowed to say. Except you can, if you replace a letter or two, then it’s fine. Isn’t it bizarre that we, a proverbial room full of grown-ass adults, write f*ck or feck or frak, as though we didn’t know exactly what what we’re saying? 4 1

Personally, I the Irish lilt feck and shyte evoke. 5
