I have not played the original game but I like Double Fines games, (Brutal Legend comes to mind) and if you watch the xbox games event with this part, they show that the person singing the song in this video is Jack Black.  This game looks like an acid trip, but very interesting.

I am beyond excited for this!!! The fans have been waiting for fifteen freaking years! I can't count how many times I played the original game. Myr, I highly recommend playing it before the sequel comes out. It's on Steam for a decent price if you're interested.
