Ok so I was re-reading some of the chapters of TLW and in chapter 13 i noticed Aiden talking about 1 of his 4 boyfriends that he had. Here's what is says:

"Forget it." I insisted, "Now come on, you still have two more of these guys to tell me about."

"Okay." Aiden smiled, "The next one was Aaron. I met him at school too. But, he was so afraid of what his parents would think if he found out, that we were always sneaking around wherever we could. He ended up moving away a few months later and I never heard from him again. And then, there was Mike

I dunno. In DD ch17, Aaron talks about when he and Luke "were younger." And in DD ch36, the narrative (Rory) talks about how Luke latched onto Aaron when he came to Arizona. Unless Aiden had a prepubescent "relationship" with Aaron it doesn't seem to fit. It seems like Aaron has been living in Arizona for many years.

Yes exactly, I was thinking Luke was about 12 or 13 when he moved to Arizona and met Aaron. Plus in the section just quoted Aiden said "the next one", I believe he'd mentioned 2 already BEFORE his Aaron. So they would indeed have had to be pretty young. Plus Aiden said he met Aaron "at school" which I assumed meant their current school. I guess he might have meant "my old school" (as in junior high or something), but it seems unlikely to me too.

No, I think a better guess is that Dom just likes the name Aaron and used it twice. I never finish anything I write :/ , but I'm pretty guilty of using the same couple of dozen names too.

Interesting thought though :)

Have a great day and take care everyone :)

Yeah, but Dom never actually says what year it is in his stories...maybe it was the 60's or 70's in those stories......don't you think it's kinda suspicious that NO ONE has the internet yet in Dom Luka's stories????? Hmmmmm, just a theory (I know, I think too much, probably because I just drank 2 redbulls)

Hmmmmm :read::read::read:

It could be him....... Quinn made an appearance in DD

Just curious...when was Quinn in DD?

DD, at least, would be impossible set in the 60's or 70's. High school kids didn't start carrying cell phone (at least wide spread) until the mid/late 90's. Rory, Luke and Seth all have cell phones.

When was Jude in DD?

Kitty :D

DD chapter 4. A previously discussed typo: "After Jude and Eddie left for work...".

I think there was another appearence he made where Rory talked about having a conversasion with Jude, but it was really Jase he talked to......I'll look for it

LOL. I'll grant you this one. There are a couple of typos where Jase is referred to as Jude.

DD ch4 "After Jude and Eddie left for work, ..."

DD ch16 "...after I got back with Jude and started to dial Aaron's number. Talking to Jude had made me feel better..."

Both cases are clearly typos though and it is actually Jase that is being referred to.

Oh, yeah. No CDs either.

While Dessert Dropping is timeless, there is evidence in chapter one that the timeline of the story is in the 2000's.

Was TLW specifically not set in Arizona? Maybe it took place in Arizona, just never referenced. :P Lol, I think i'd be interesting if it was the same Aaron.

Hmmmmm! I think you have a good point there... I can't recall any mention of the internet, or e-mail, either. That is interesting...

However, cell phones are mentioned, and those are fairly recent for high school students. Also, the social attitudes displayed regarding gays seem to be contemporary, or at least within 10 years. Just IMHO.

Mrs Moore has access to the internet (chapter 22):

"Quinn, while I can understand why you left today, you had no business doing it without telling me first." She responded stubbornly. "I

I'm very much of the feeling that these stories are set in vintage time, with a very timeless quality to them. The subject matter makes them time independent, which is why they probably appeal to so many, I like that quality and perhaps the time obsession is a tad futile?

I think you're right Nick, these stories are timeless and it really doesn't matter what time period they were set in. I think Dom not giving the stories a specific time period it was makes them relateable to all reader, wheter you are 16 or 50, the stories evoke something inside of all, which is astronomical.

Actually, though the internet was around, it wasnt really used for eMail on a wide base until about 1998. But cell phones were used widely since they were invented in 1986. Anywho, lets just try to agree that DD was set exactly around "pretty recent" if you know what I mean.

In addition, they are made to wait at security instead of being allowed to go to the gate, which would place them at post 9/11.

Cell phones in the '80s were big affairs that you plugged in to the car. Some of them were "box phones."

There was an earlier period when visitors could not go behind airport security, but that had been relaxed for some years prior to its reinstatement after 9/11. I can't recall when that was.

Beepers never took off in Australia -- they were more a USA thing. A beeper is a pager. For the older models, you would ring a phone number, and then hit some numbers. Those extra numbers appeared on the display of the pager that was rung. In the mid 80s, they then started working with alphanumeric pagers, but I don't know what happened with them (my first USA trip was for setting up an alphanumeric paging system, which is only reason I know any of this). They have now been obsoleted by text messaging.

Pagers were big in the UK, even ones parents could buy that would keep them in touch with their little Herberts running around. I recall the first portable mobile phones, that had a battery as large as a house brick and the phone itself wasn't much smaller.

Mark my words, they'll eventually be implanted into the body and people will walk around talking to themselves and hearing voices in their head. At some stage this will progress so far, it'll work on ' thought waves ' .

I'm semi serious here. - It WILL happen.

Pagers were big too in Indonesia. I remember back in the late 90's (Highschool everyone, :P ) when most kids have one (I didn't :( ) Then it was replaced by cellphone (handphone as we call it) sometime in the last 7 years.

Now even junior-high and elementary school kids have cellphones!
