The 8 point story arc or What my writing was missing
Kenny Deheart replied to Kenny Deheart's topic in Writer's Circle
I don't know how I missed the fact that I actually got replies to my topic, lol I just wanted to make sure everyone realizes that my intention was to share something that impressed me, and not to say that you should follow this system. Twenty days later and using this to actually plot out a few of my abortive stories shows that this system does works for me, as long as I keep in mind that its a changeable guideline and not a hard and fast plot. I personally need things laid out at first so that I can see where the story is going, the lack of which is one of the main reasons I almost rarely finished any stories, and the two that I did finish feel basically random and plotless. So far this is working, and as a small proof, I actually managed to write a plot and the first chapter of a story that I feel is better than anything I have ever written before, and posted it here of course, pending review since I am a first time poster. -
Chapter One “No.” “What do you mean no?” The exasperated yell that echoed in the back room originating from a short, stocky, and rather rough-hewn man was surprisingly loud. “I mean no.” I repeated in a deliberately calm voice. Usually Doren did not trigger the urge but with me just winning a frustratingly easy fight again and then him starting right up into this old argument, and my temper threshold was very low right now. Why in the hell did he want to br

The 8 point story arc or What my writing was missing
Kenny Deheart posted a topic in Writer's Circle
Yesterday I came across a website that gave me a simple plot outline template that I now realize was what is missing from my writing. I have actually been going through all the bits that I have written and filling in plot for my plotless and unfinished stories. I can free write with no problem but I always end up loosing direction after a while and no matter how hard I try to create a decent plot, it always end up being too complicated and and I end up loosing interest in the story. I am the kind of person that sometimes needs things spelled out in a simple fashion and these 8 points do that. 1. Stasis 2. Trigger 3. The quest 4. Surprise 5. Critical choice 6. Climax 7. Reversal 8. Resolution The link below explains each point in detail and is being extremely helpful for me. http://www.dailywritingtips.com/how-to-structure-a-story-the-eight-point-arc/ Posting it here in hope it helps others who have similar problems -
Laughing for real at this

Ooo, uneven gravity. Got my creative juices flowing for a story idea. Probably won't end up posting it and it will end up sitting in my pile of unfinished and unposted story beginnings.

There's the problem. You had to modify it. When you have to modify an os right from the beginning in order to make it useable, it is fail. I have been fully switched over to a macbook pro for a year now with mac osx and I have to say that I prefer the mac osx over any type of windows. My roommate even have an Alienware with win 7 for gaming that neither one of us uses sitting in a corner gathering dust. My experience with my first mac osx was fully intuitive and usable right from boot up. The only thing that sucks is the fact that the only real mac antivirus/antimalware clam av is pretty much manual scan only and won't prevent infections, only clean them up afterwards, the few that can infect mac osx I mean. And to set the record strait, I used to own a first generation iPad and find that the artifisial limitations that is imposed on the iOS turned it into an over expensive toy that I ended up hating before i sold it. Also my roomate bough a macbook air and had it fail twice in the first month before he exchanged it for a macbook pro also. So I an not an apple fanboy, I am a Macbook Pro osx only fan boy. I could care less about any iproducts or airbook products.

Can Pokemon games be transferred/played on a laptop?
Kenny Deheart replied to RyanWhite's topic in The Lounge
Pretty much any type of legal emulation went out the window when the PSOne emulator Bleem! was sued out of existence by sony. What really sucks is that Bleem! won the lawsuit but went bankrupt from the litigation. So right now there is no legal option for emulation, and no successful emulation for anything that came out in the last 7 years or so I think. -
Im sorry to say, but this is an example of why you should be fully prepared to never be able to talk to you family again if you come out. You will never be able to predict the effects of religion and homophobia upon the love that your family has for you. I really wish crap like this did not happen, it sometimes is very hard to think about when you associate it with real life.

Mainly I tend to look for single viewpoint stories. I have a lot of problems following stories that keep switching from character to character. this is not a criticism on those type of stories, its just mainly my comprehension problems. As for genre or type, although I do like contemporary I tend to look for gay romance with human/non-human pairings.

My greatest fear is Star Wars Episode 7 by Disney! Seriously though, Spiders and standing on a ledge of some type that doesn't have railings.

Personally I found a tool designed specifically for Timelines with multiple arcs called Aeon Timeline very helpful. It allows me to put a list of characters and events in an organized fashion without getting all bogged down in learning a new program or without me having to choose what features to use or ignore. Keeping what happened to who, and when it happened, is one of my biggest problems in developing more than a few characters. Which I realized kept limiting my stories and character development. I found it mentioned somewhere on the Nano website I think.

About the 'disappearance' of the first stories of dkstories

I sit here skimming through this thread and all I can think is how unpleasant everything in GA has been feeling lately. Which really makes me kind of sad.
