I agree! This is an awesome first chapter and it does a wonderful job of hooking the reader and portraying Nick's family! I read this chapter quite awhile ago (over a year ago), but I remember being drawn in and wanting to read more!

Well my take is that that section was a shift in perspective. The story is told from the 3rd person so it isn't unusual for a story like that to ocassionally shift focus from one person to another. I believe Cameron does this too from time to time, and most other 3rd person stories do as well.

Hey Nick LOL first off "Tea Tree treatment" is a very difficult phrase to say! 2nd, what do you use to exfoliate?
