This confuses me...Unless Kier's father is in on the 'game'...
"It's not the duty solicitor, Sarge," the officer interrupted, her voice low. "It's... well, you'd better just come and see."
Annoyance flickered across Miller’s face. He shot Kieran a look that said *this isn't over*, and left the room.
Kieran waited. The silence stretched, tighter and more anxious than before. He stared at the blank wall, at the recording equipment with its steady red light. Ten minutes passed, each one an eternity.
Then the door opened again.
Miller walked in first, but he was a different man. His smugness was gone, replaced by a shrunken, furious bewilderment. Behind him entered a man in a pinstripe suit so sharp it seemed to cut the stale air. He carried a calfskin briefcase and an aura of expensive, unassailable authority that made the room feel even smaller.
And behind the solicitor walked Kieran’s father.
Mr. Varys looked exactly as he always had: a study in controlled grey. Grey suit, perfectly pressed. Grey hair, perfectly trimmed. Grey eyes, cold and assessing. He entered the interview room as if inspecting a particularly unsavoury public toilet. His sneer of distaste took in the bolted table, the stained walls, the recording equipment, and finally, his son.
He didn't look at Kieran. He looked at the space Kieran occupied, as if he were an unfortunate stain on the scene.
If Ben is paying Sterling, why was Kieran's father there???
He does.
