a few little issues with this chapter: (1) Maggie is a a guest in Nash and Jarran's home but ends up doing food prep. Who assigns their mom kitchen duty in their adult home (2) Bill's opinion is sought and valued but again Maggie's in the kitchen (3) All life's problems are fixed with money. Millions are now getting deposited in to their accounts so they are set. Life should be about your own accomplishments. It reads a little like property theology > if you are good god enriches you, ... therefore the poor are not worthy and God forbid we have universal healthcare

ohh, back to the story line for a moment. Jack may be only sixteen but he has only acknowledged being gay and acted on it for about a week or two. I can fully understand him not being ready to "fall in love" or at least not being ready to decide who to fall in love with yet. Jack's Mom is behaving terribly. However being angry at Jack doesn't necessarily mean that she doesn't love him. It could be, but not necessarily. She could be very conflicted and showing her feelings (love, confusion, and everything else) thorough anger. She may come around. She may also lose her family over this if she doesn't. Great for Ronxy for making us wait to find out. That's where the drama lies

The story IS so good. The comments alone support this by the very ferocity of the feelings expressed by readers to the actions of fictional characters. Readers are even threatening them ! - well maybe that's not good, but the story is

“That bitch has some explaining to do. If something is wrong with my babies I’m gonna smack a bitch.” Kaleb said hanging half out the door looking up and down the empty corridor. “Where the hell did she disappear too?” Language, language !! Really - not cool !

Franklin looked up at Doug from the floor, holding his face after Doug landed a punch Sugar Ray Leonard would have been proud of. Was this really necessary? There are many ways to create drama and get and hold the reader's attention. Someone hitting their grandfather is not a great way to do so. It cheapens the story, for this reader, but also is inconsistent with how a good Parent, which Blu's character certainly is, would act, especially in front of their children. Anyone can be violent, for good or for evil. Quiet strength is far more powerful than bravado.

Sperm Donor is not a fair characterization . I think that this story focusses on how people can be have badly, even be assholes but that neither means that they are all bad nor should they necessarily be written off. Richie's father abandoned his family and expected to be welcomed back with smile and respect afterward. To his surprise, the hurt remained. But we do see that he has started to try. this chapter also shows that Ritchie's hurt and abandonment also stem from his knowledge that he and his dad loved each other in the past. Ritchie and his father may never reconcile, maybe with good reasons but that does not mean it is useful to dehumanize someone. Next it is okay to dehumanize someone based on ethnicity, sexuality or gender identity. It is a slippery slope. It is one thing for Ritchie a 15 year old dealing with trauma to use this term in rage, then for us to pick up on it as readers.

Jason, I am [almost] certain that based on some comments you made along the way, I had set my expectations that Greg and Nate would heal but that the damage would not allow them to be together. They would be friends and be able to move forward in relationships. While that could have been satisfactory ending, based the quality of the writing, I am happy that it is not the ending.

Well, it is Wednesday and I have finally read the chapter. I wasn't sure when the next chapter may come so I didn't want to rush to read it. My resistance broke down and the wait begins again. A lot of progress in this last chapter. I appreciated how you showed that it is still difficult for Ben to come out even with lots of support. It looks like Eve will support her brother but that doesn't mean that it is easy for her to change her perceptions. I expect that it will happen fairly quickly and give her greater perspective on her own struggles with her dad. That said her preconceptions are being challenged and that is not comfortable. She has Andrew and Ben's love to help her and I feel Ben can count on her. Well played Graeme!

I know that Josh assaulted Gary when Gary provoked him but I am not sure that it is fair to say that he was a bully. His friends bullied Gary but I don't think Josh did more than not stop it until Gary hit him and then well ....
