  1. Read it. Just . . . find the book, and read it.
  2. Kathy Griffin has always been a favorite of mine. Her show and stand up is hilarious.
  3. Unbeknownst to me, I met one of the actors the other day. He was at Bed Bath & Beyond. After I met him, while flipping through channels, I saw him on Heroes . I looked it up on wikipedia, he plays Adam Monroe. Very cute and stylish too.
  4. Congrats! You're older! Yay!
  5. Yes the flashbacks were confusing - I kept having to remind myself what exactly was going on before the flashback started. But overall it was really good. Enough to keep me interested and waiting for season 4. Some of the things revealed I already knew (i.e. Gina and Cain's relationship and Starbuck as the harbringer of death) but it was done well. The other thing is that it was a movie and they were forced to edit out some things for tv, which you might have noticed when in the credits, a "young cain" or something was credited but didn't appear. The editing out of scenes was probably the reason for the flashback problems. But again, very good and will be waiting (im)patiently til March.
  6. I'll be honest here. I'm a grammer snob. If I'm reading and catch a mistake, (and not something stupid and subjective, but like mistaking their/there/they're or further/farther or between/among or something along those lines) I have a real hard time getting back into the story. Or when something really comes out of nowhere. Like the author didn't know where to take the story or just wanted it to end. Or when I feel like something feels contrived. Like it'll just magically fix all the conflicts of the story. Then I just roll my eyes and stop reading.
  7. For one of the first "gay" tv shows it wasn't all bad, but it would have been nice to some diversity. A more rounded cast would have been nice.
  8. Oh I understand the reasoning behind it, but to me a crime is a crime. People shouldn't be treated differently because they hold different beliefs.
  9. Forgot to put this into the last post which was about politics (thus this part is like, Politics II). Funny and true: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhw8DFSGzvg I was going to put up another vid of Richard Jeni, but for some reason it is not working. So, if you want, look up "richard jeni gay baby" on youtube. Very funny. And Now, For A Public Service Announcement: "The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence
  10. I don't know, I have my own issues on "hate crimes". I don't really think we should be legislating what's in peoples heads but, that's just me.
  11. Agreed with Closer and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Havent seen the others but I'll probably check them out. My favorites: Closer - Here, there is a difference between confessing you've cheated because you feel guilt and seek forgiveness, and confessing to cause pain. Rare and refreshing to see characters so articulate. Run Lola Run- A well done German foreign film. Short, but an exercise in kinetic energy and nonstop motion. Children of Men - About the way that fear can be used to justify a police state. Very convincing, the film serves as a cautionary warning. The climax is open-ended, which is fitting. With a chase scene with one of the most sudden and violent moments I have ever seen in a film, probably my favorite between all of these. Shaun of the Dead - One of the first movies I was ever actually laughing out loud in the theater. Treats the living characters as sitcom regulars whose conflicts and arguments keep getting interrupted by annoying flesh-eaters. A refreshing romantic zombie comedy. 28 Days Later - Another (semi)zombie movie, I've never been a fan of scary movies but this was the first I really liked. Like the sequel it ends standardly, but it's still a tough, smart, ingenious movie that leads its characters into situations where everything depends on their (and our) understanding of human nature. Donnie Darko - It took me a few times to (semi)get this movie. I could tell you what I think happens at the end but I could be wrong. Much is left unexplained but the set-up and development is fascinating. Primer - Let me just start by saying you wont understand this movie. But basically, friends build what they believe to be a time machine in their basement. Complications ensue. Extremely well made movie for such a small budget, it won the award for best drama at Sundance 2004. Dogma - Another great Kevin Smith flick, it takes the church teachings jokingly and very seriously indeed--both at the same time. The Matrix (I and II) - Well done in inspiring pseudo-philosophy and weaving romance/action/sci-fi all into one.
  12. While it's always been true that prices are higher in the UK, Europeans drive cars that are 50% more fuel-efficient than Americans do. The average American and European spend about the same for their automotive needs, but the Americans drive more miles in less fuel-efficient cars.
  13. $3.35 a gallon. Cost about $60 to fill up the tank. Fun!
  14. Im celebrating the fact that its friday. (thank god) It's been a long week. And I made a lot of progress on a story. Yay! Go me!
  15. I had something to say but nevermind.
  16. I believe I said that I want the "I smoke and don't want to quit" option. And as someone pointed out, younger people in general tend to be more close-minded. But that's a whole other Oprah. People take it upon themselves to remind me of health concerns with little jibes like, "Smoking kills ya know?" I always respond the same way, "I'm counting on it." My sardonic sense of humor, I guess.
  17. Congrats. Youre older.
  18. I believe we had an earthquake today or yesterday. It was small - 5.something, but yeah. I am near hating you right now. Swear to god.
  19. Reminds me of people who say "Cali". (It's one way we know you're not from here)

    Politics

I was talking politics with a friend of mine and I think I want to explain my views. I am pretty liberal, but I can usually understand both sides of an argument. Here's just what I think of a few things: The President I think that people don't give him enough credit. I mean honestly, he's doing the best he can. I doubt he had some ulterior motives when getting into office. People expect him to make these godlike decisions and forget he's just a man. Can you imagine how stressful that job must be? Making a decision that could cost the lives of thousands of people when not making it could be even more damaging? There's no way I could do it, and neither could you. And the other thing is that people blame him for so much, which I suppose is the main purpose of the executive, a figurehead who gets blamed if something goes wrong, but its pretty ridiculous. Like Hurricane Katrina - what was he supposed to do? Disaster relief isn't exactly his job. People were told to leave and they didn't. And people keep saying how anyone could do a better job - really? Anyone? Congress When the democrats were first elected into congress in 2006, at the time I figured Hillary or at least a democrat would win in 2008. The people saw that staying in power for a long periods of time leads to corruption. There were ton of stories of right-wing hypocrisy like Ted Haggard, that anti-gay priest caught with a male hooker and drugs or the congressman who was caught sabotaging his opponents voting numbers. After all those stories everyone realized things truly needed to change. But after watching the democrats take over congress, I'm not sure if Hillary (who I would be voting for) or any democrat is as electable to the presidency as I thought they were. The people of this country voted for real change. They were tired of the war and they wanted someone to stand up to the president and get something done. So they got into office and did absolutely nothing. Early on we kept hearing about Nancy Pelosi, and the first woman Speaker, and the First Hundred Days and blah blah blah. But in the two years has there been any change? At all? No. The democrats did what they always do, they cowered in the corner and begged not to be made fun of. I read an article recently and it was talking about how the democrats were worried they were becoming to overconfident. After reading that I couldn't imagine why. They have absolutely no reason to be. I understand that they don't really want to piss anyone off and they want to get re-elected, but if they don't do the job they were sent into office to do, there's no way they will to be elected again. They had a job, given a huge opportunity and they failed miserably. If I was a republican who was tired enough of my own party and decided to vote for the opposing party, after watching how things have been going for the past two years, it would be enough to never vote for a democrat again. Or maybe just never vote again, period. I know from rereading this post it might not sound like I'm liberal, but I am. I think the reason I'm so hard on the liberals is because they just don't do anything. They were given an amazing precedent - they could have owned the stage for years to come, but they blew it. At least republicans are loud and aren't afraid. That's really what the democrats need - some f**king balls.
  21. :cough: :cough:
  22. Well 9 bucks is cheap here too.
  23. That's fine - its just that some of the people who commented acted like it was so BENEATH them to go see a funny movie. And for those of you who didn't see the first one, it was widely regarded as one of the funniest movies of 2004.
