For Harley, think of a tall, lanky, dark-haired skater with a long hose. For Ritchie, I started off with the actor who played Clark Kent as a kid in the Man of Steel movie. He was also in Teen Wolf. I'm aging him slowly and he'll end up being bulkier. Ritchie idolizes CJ and will follow his example spending time lifting weights and eating properly.

See above for images. Even though I try to describe them accurately, part of the fun is providing just enough information to allow readers to create an image in their own minds.

For every character, I start with a general idea of what I went them to look like. The next step is searching for a picture of someone who approximates my initial conception. I have pictures for every single character but often end up modifying the descriptions to suit my purposes. Here's what CJ and Ozzie (I'm certain you can figure out who's who LOL) look like around the time of this chapter:

You have a great weekend, Tony. I'll be slaving over another chapter trying to make sure I keep all readers hooked.

Thanks, Tony. I hope you realize I look forward to Fridays as much as you do. I most definitely enjoy the reactions and comments from readers.

Aside from moving us along on the path to the wedding, we find out CJ's running for political office at the age of twenty. And his breaking into the tunnels with Carson shows us he IS twenty. No matter how mature he may be, the kid in him is ready to come out and play. I thought that was enough for this week
  8. CJ and Owen alternated behind the wheel; some sixteen hours after leaving Orlando, they arrived home in Washington. It was near midnight and they did not stay up much longer; they had tickets to the Justin Timberlake concert Sunday night. The plan was to spend the day doing laundry and washing the bikes, the truck, and the trailer. “Morning, Dad.” CJ sat at the breakfast bar, nursing a mug of coffee while paging through the newspaper. “Morning, bud. You get enough rest?” César ruffled hi
  9. If leaving reviews on stories gains me new readers, I may have to write more of them. CJ's the son I wish I had (maybe grandson would be more realistic.) The series covering his coming of age is firmly grounded in current events while exploring universal subjects. His abhorrence of bigotry in any form was established in the previous books; Hunting Season was the result of my despise for the events described, primarily the murder of a protestor. I wanted this stand-alone story to be enjoyed without having to trudge through the entire series. Hopefully, I succeeded. Thanks for reading and commenting, Rigby.
  10. In the interest of full disclosure: I picked up Rough Justice hoping to steal an Aussie slang or two. I have a few Australian characters and try to intersperse an Oztrayan word now and then in their dialogue. Imagine my surprise when I ended up binge reading the story. Mr. Taylor spins an engaging tale exploring love and hate. Two young men fumble through their mutual attraction while others conspire against them. The author adroitly weaves social commentary into the tale commenting on politics, religion, the environment, and bigotry. An engaging, multi-cultural cast of characters provide us with humor and thoughtful dialogue. Bart and Robert face off against homophobic adversaries and together discover how far one of them will go to protect the other one. Some may find the ending disturbing. To me, it personifies the book's title. I would suggest reading on a tablet--the ability to highlight words and seek definitions will prove invaluable. The interruptions are at times annoying, but my vocabulary grew as I read. Oh, and the Aussie slang? I may have noticed one or two but became so engaged I forgot to write them down. I'll have to peruse other work by Mr. Taylor so I can accomplish my theft. Definitely worth reading.

    Chapter 21

Rigby, FYI. The comment about the muscles on the guys on the dance floor being a result of hours at the gym or steroids is inaccurate. Steroids by themselves won't give you musculature, the need for abundant exercise is still there. I've seen the results of people using steroids without lifting weights; they're not pretty. Flab and man boobs.

Cute. But he's an idiot for feeling guilty. I wouldn't have given that cheating bastard the time of day. No excuse for cheating. NONE!

When I was in NYC, my friend asked me if I was going to sew patches onto my new Perfecto. I know sacrilegious. I have a leather vest and a denim one covered in patches and pins. The leather one's gotten so heavy I only wear it when going to meets.

That one is on the back of one of my vests at the bottom hem. Right next to the one that says "I Fuck on the First Date"

Guthrie's such a great storyteller No new motorcycles for a while and no rides to the Welsh countryside. Their time in England will be short since it's a stop on the way to their final destination. I didn't test ride the new Indian when I was at Bike Week in March but damn did it look gorgeous! I've tried to infuse Owen with non-American attitudes and seems I succeeded. Didn't want him and CJ to be clones of each other and show couples can disagree and still have a strong relationship. CJ gave in on the priest but he's not about to do so on helmets and guns. You KNOW Lola was with him during the trip to Florida.

Thank you! there's so much going on with CJ and Owen I've had a hard time giving the other characters a lot of ink. They've made cameos here and there but this was a good chance to explore Harley's personality a bit more. Not only his relationship with Kim but also his mild fear when surrounded by a bunch of gay men on the prowl. It also shows how much he trusts CJ and Owen he didn't run out of Parliament House screaming.

You just described CJ and how he feels about the subject. I can imagine he resisted getting married by a priest at first and gave in because it meant a lot to Owen. Many moons ago I sat on the Board of Directors of a not-for-profit organization providing emergency aid to AIDS patients. I met a couple of Episcopal priests who formed the basis for Chance. Most religious leaders are worthless. They could disappear and I wouldn't miss them, but there's a few out there who can actually think.

LMAO! You know how much I enjoy readers relating to what I wrote. It tells me I got close to real life. Welcome back!

    Saving my Bacon

Need to be careful since I've read the next chapter. I liked and felt sorry for Jeff from the start. I'm glad so many others are coming around to realize he's not the most enlightened person in the world but not inherently evil. As far as his addiction, it's a disease and not everyone is sufficiently self-aware to recognize their illness. Most times they have to hit rock bottom before there's a chance for recovery. I hope the family can survive if the bottom falls out.

@Bft Restaurants in New York are so plentiful and varied I can only scratch the surface. Since the guys live in the Upper East Side, most of the places I use are in that area. If you let us know when and where you'll be I'm sure we can offer a few suggestions. Will this be your first trip there?

@jwh6868 The first appearance of the ancient biker back in Autumn left my editor scratching his head. He suggested I delete the scene since it didn't add much to the story. I had to explain what Clive Cussler usually did and that I wanted to do the same. I just never gave the guy a name until now. As for Harley, I wouldn't know about his size based on personal experience. A friend told me tall, skinny, white dudes usually have something extra...

    Polls

Forgive my ignorance... Is there a way to create a poll within an existing discussion thread? I'd like to survey reader opinions related to my CJ series. I searched for answers but so far it seems I would have to create an entirely new thread to do so. Since we're not supposed to have more than one thread per story, I'm uncertain how to proceed.
  24. You can always do it by tagging the reviewer and replying in the story comments section. I kinda like the uncluttered approach to story reviews. I think it's easier for prospective readers to hear overall impressions without having to deal with back and forth comments.

LOL - I wish it was autobiographical! I wouldn't mind having CJ's lifestyle.
