As Time Goes By • Part V - Excerpt
Carlos Hazday posted new chapter in Newport - Summer of '22 Book III
CJ did his homework before the event. Proper preparation was something he learned while working on the Clinton 2016 presidential campaign and became standard operating procedure for him. While researching in advance of the reception, he learned Thompson's Boat Center had served as the home of Georgetown Crew for near fifty years. Located at the intersection of Rock Creek Parkway and Virginia Avenue on the Potomac River in Georgetown, Thompson's was a public facility owned by the National Park Se- 26 comments

Although CJ’s plans to run for president of the United States were firm, the steps necessary to achieve his goal were not. During the wide-ranging conversation with Carson on the flight to Rhode Island, he and Owen stressed they were flexible on how to get where they wanted. Some of it would depend on the country’s political climate and which party controlled Congress and the White House during the intervening years. The exchange was conducted quietly to avoid anyone overhearing. “I’m not s

In Newport for a wedding, CJ’s confronted from the right by a Donald Trump acolyte and from the left by an Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fan. In both instances, he deftly refutes their arguments, impressing the groom’s father sufficiently he offers CJ a job.

@astone2292 Thought you might enjoy a short story (500 or so words) from a master.

Thanks! I've read the story countless time, and Clarke's storytelling is as magnificent each time as the first one. Talk about packing a punch in a flash piece! Really glad you enjoyed it, Dave.

BTW, I didn't know D.C. was home. I hope I've done your hometown good in the CJ series.

Nope. This is a sore subject for me. All Mom accomplished was make Dad miserable until she died. The day after her funeral, he had a cigar in his mouth. When he was living in the ALF alone, my brothers and I kept him well supplied. Last time this one woman told me I should quit smoking because it was unhealthy, I suggested she stop eating because being as fat as she was, was unhealthy. And the worst part is the hypocrisy. Most of the meddlers think nothing of drinking and getting drunk although it's unhealthy too. For the record, I'm a reformed smoker, but quitting was my choice.

Aaron's a grown up man. Stop nagging. If he wants to smoke, let him. I would frequently scream at my mother when she nagged my dad for smoking cigars. What is it with you people? Can't you live and let live? Aaron, buddy, I'm sending you a carton as a Christmas present. 😁

Lucy's next appearance would be in the Vegas story I mentioned, if I get around to writing it. That would be 6 months after getting engaged. Honestly, I haven't thought about how much ink she'd get, and what she'll be like. Up to now she's been mostly arm candy, and I had to flesh her out a bit for this story. She's smart, self reliant, and kind of chill. She obviously thinks ahead as the conversation with CJ shows. Using a sister in law as a guide, Lucy would not be as rambunctious as the rest of the clan, but she has no problem sitting back with a glass of wine and smiling at the Hazday family's antics.

@Anton_Cloche In Ripper Christmas, I had Spencer and Tilda give Liebe an Australian zoo of small, plush animals. In Chemist, Thiago's son clutches a puggle. Before he moved from Washington to Atlanta, Liebe gave it to him as a present. Pug returns in an upcoming story. Summer roses, and wine slushies, have been trendy with the in crowds the past few years. I decided to have CJ and Owen buy into the pink wines because I kinda like them on a hot day, but not the boozy Slurpees (7-11 slush drinks sold from the freezing machine.) What I'd like to try, and I haven't found locally, is a Verdelho Tinto. Remember to wish CJ a happy 25th on the 23rd!

GA's full of great short stories. The long sagas with multiple chapters grab most of the headlines, but I love short stories. They can either be a slice of life thing or proved a traditional surprise twist at the end. One of my all-time favorites---not on GA---is Reunion by Arthur C. Clarke. Slightly over 500 words, it has a incredible twist at the end.

Neither will become a state any time soon. Both lean Democratic and the Republican party will not allow them to join the union. One plan I read about calls for the White House, Supreme Court, Capitol, and most Federal government facilities to be carved out into a separate entity, allowing the rest to become eligible for statehood.

Mine's the day after Liebe's. -
Henry's a perfect name for a Ford. A heck of a lot better than Edsel. LOL CJ wanted to keep his first car, Defiant the Jeep, to pass on, but his brother had to park it in the way of a skidding semi. Since we seem to be heading the way of every car being electric, gas powered relics will one day be rare. Maybe I'll have Ritch keep his Porsche. I already mentioned he'll live in a large house with a hangar when he leaves the Air Force. He can park it next to his plane. Did your grandmother enjoy riding in it again?

It's such a comfortable read. Short but evoking a lot of different emotions.

LOL.. I write sweet stuff all the time. I just posted a chapter with a romantic twist to it. Of course I had to ensure people knew I was the author, so I preceded the ring's unveiling with a naked 4 year-old boy doing pushups on the deck of a sailboat. At least the differences between this effort and my recent ones show I've improved. Interesting timing on this one being featured. You're not the only one with an inanimate object as an MC. LOL

December Signature Feature: Melvyn Ford by Carlos Hazday
Carlos Hazday commented on Cia's blog entry in Gay Authors News
Nice surprise, Cia. Thanks for the early Christmas present. This is a favorite of mine, written a long time ago, and nowhere near as polished as my current offerings. It's also proof I can write stuff not featuring a certain MC who's taken over my life. Even if these little tales sometimes get lost in the clutter. And yes, I suspect @WolfM is biased. I suspect he was buttering me up so I'd edit his work faster.- 7 comments

@drpaladin I read or watched something about their horns being sold to European royals as coming from unicorns. A viking story featuring a narwhal might make for an interesting short. -
