  1. So who all is going to join the roll call? Let's not put all our fate into Ferris
  2. Inherited by Lomax61 Reviewer: Parker Owens Status: Complete Word Count: 94,659 So perhaps you need a late summer thriller? A plotline thick with twists and unexpected turns? Something to binge-read on a week’s vacation under the sun? There’s no need for a trip to the airport news seller. Instead, just tee up Inherited, by GA Author Lomax61. Told through the eyes of a young English man, Gabriel Redbrick, who is grieving the loss of his wealthy and well-connected lover, Albert Callico in a minibus accident. The story unfolds as he learns he has inherited a disused villa in Italy. At the same time, Gabriel finds an unusual message left to him by Albert. Events propel him to leave London and his adventures accelerate. If you have read any of the many fictional or autobiographical works set in Italy published over the past decade, you will easily be able to picture the Italian locations Lomax takes us to. But don't be fooled by the charm and sunny beauty of the Italian scene, because there is more to the story than olive trees, surprising food and excellent wine. Before long, Gabriel finds himself embroiled in a perilous mystery which must be unspooled, lest he meet an untimely end. Lomax isn’t content to present us with shadowy characters, odd clues to an occluded past and an ever-present sense of danger. You could find that on the pulp-fiction rack anywhere. What you find with Inherited are well-drawn and vividly written members of a wide cast – who chill, who reassure, and who smolder on the page. While readers of Clancy or Ludlum or Fleming will recognize some themes and scene types portrayed in this story, Lomax61 writes them in a refreshing and highly engaging way. At the end, he is able to leave the reader satisfied, having unmasked mysteries that kept us on the edge of our beach chairs throughout. This is a highly recommended story, one which you ought to read now before it’s optioned for the silver screen as next summer’s blockbuster. That way, you can sip your mojito around the pool and tell your friends the film was nice, but the book was better. 3. I’ll be different. Although everyone’s opinion is justified. I absolutely loved the film, period. When I watch a film, I don’t sit down to psychoanalyze it. If after 10 mins, I’m bored or lost, chances that will be the end of it. This film just evoke emotions from me, I laughed, a lot, I cried, I emphasized, and it made me wonder. After, I thought about what if I was one of the characters, how different life would be. You know that sort of superficial daydream thing we all do. The actors I thought portrayed how I read them in the book. I’m not a big Uma fan, so to me her accent was perfect. Since I don’t live in the South, who am I to judge if it was bad or not? My favourite scene, and I’m giggling right now, was when the President’s Chief of Staff opens the hotel room door with her override key. My disappointment was not having Nora, the V.P.’s daughter, as the thick as mud beastie through out the film and so small of a presence. So being just a simple person , the movie was great to me. One of the better adaptations I’ve seen on a book conversion.
  4. I told you, I’m just going to move in with you. You can take care of me in my latter years
  5. I think I am going to rename this blog from Weekly Wrap Up to Steve's aging blog My question to you this week is this. Do you know you have something to do, but before you get to it, you are distracted by multiple other things? Case in point, I sat down over an hour ago to start on the Weekly Wrap Up, didn't happen. Logged into GA, noticed the few notifications so started weaving my way through those. Then there is a few topics that I'm following that I see people posted on. Then I like to usually read the blog on the day. So get all that done, and still not started on the Wrap Up . So do you get easily distracted at GA? I'm curious if you log on here and then don't really get to what you maybe logged in to do. So much great stuff and so little time Before I procrastinate anymore , let's get the show on the road. We started off the week with Cia where she introduced us to the CSR for the month August. Check it out. it might get you reading and then make some comments, maybe ask some questions for when the CSR Review Day comes up: On Thursday, we had a bit of an announcement and shuffling the deck here at GA! Aaron let us all know that the Author Guess Who has been revived. We are looking for authors to submit their name, Aaron will PM you some questions, then they will be kept in a mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnall's porch until noon the day before the blog. NO one, knows the contents of these envelopes. Okay, too young to understand that joke ? So all of us would like you to submit your name. What a great way to build up some exposure on the site: Friday, our sure fire Prompt Team came at us with 2 new prompts. 8. Heard today that probably one of the most smoothest voices I heard later on in his life, passed away today. Robbie Robertson started off in The Band, and then did years of producing and other music related business before starting a solo career. He didn't have a perfect life, in the realms of Rock and Roll, but he owned up to it. One of the most moving LP's / CD's that I ever heard was when he reached back to his native Canadian roots and made an album with First Nations singers and artists. Music for the Native Americans is one of my favourites and it is so haunting and emotional. Rest in Peace, Robbie. 1943 - 2023. If anyone had a lot to say in their dash, he would be one of them.

  10. Well we just had a false alert go off in my GA and I'm 100% blaming Myr He made misleading comment about one of the better selling gay books becoming a movie. So naturally I ran to Amazon Prime to watch it. To heck with the Weekly Wrap Up until much later I get to Prime and I'm thinking those rat bastardsions, they are not showing it in Canada!!! Then go back to the post and see it is only a trailer on YouTube. I seem to be doing this more and more often, not reading everything. Is it age? Is it lack of patience? Is it laziness? I'd really like to know. If you fall into this same category, curious on what you blame it on Well onto the show. 15. Hello 😎 First off, I want to thank the ever elegant Cia for taking care of the wrap up for me last week I think we will keep her around for a bit Actually, with all your talk of bears, i had to leave my campsite temporarily as they tracked a gizzily momma and two clubs right close to our tent and campsite , but I survived. @Bill W, I can now say I survived the bears and the bares Now if it was a blue bear, no bets on who would have won that one. I have to admit to myself, as I grow older, I become more forgetful Back on June 25th, I forgot to remind everyone to write down in your calendars to remember to buy my Christmas present for 6 months down the road Since I did forget, I can't help to imagine that I might get a few less pressies this year than last . So onto the past week. I was going to tell you all it is a secret, but low and behold, everything is now out in the open! Monday was the kick off to the big reveal of our Secret Author week. Cia used the word purloined (need to get Myr to use that in the Word of the Day), and asked us to guess on which author wrote what. So out of our 100's of Authors, you had to narrow it down to 11. Then it was off to Tuesday, where the Secret Author contest winner was revealed Did you guess right? Also we found out the 1 lucky reader that was a winner too! So we now know 1 of the 11 authors and what story she wrote! In typical, suspenseful, Cia cliffhanger fashion, she waited until Thursday to give you the whole list of the authors and the stories. Were you surprised? Did any really throw you off as they took the challenge to write outside of their normal style? Also at this time, I want to throw at least 100 thanks and gratitude to all our participants and Cia as well. This was Cia's baby and she nurtured it to the final day. We all need to thank all of them for their great work. All of you, take a bow Well that got us up to Friday, where Val got us reset back into a normal routine with the Prompts this week: Wow, most would say that is a full week. I know I would. But no, Comicality dropped by to give us a new writing article. If you were too exhausted from the former parts of the week, don't forget to check this one out: Last thing I want to mention is that yesterday Myr posted about some upcoming changes that will be happening to GA. Not for the sake of change, but for the need to change due to updates to our software systems. Make sure to pop in and leave a comment. You do have a say in the future of GA!! So now here is the Words of the Day. Once again, some I knew, some I thought I knew and some I didn't have a clue: perforate, youth, polestar, nosewheel, merino, prowl, bayberry Here is the look at the past weeks postings on all our Authors and Poets! Chapter 1

One of the real guys has been a police officer in a city near you (well anyone, not saying which city ) for years and is an inspector now. Wonder if he help his force save some money that got him promoted Thanks for commenting
  17. Funny you all should mention a bear. So we were set up in a tenting 'campground'. On Saturday we saw a few conservation officers and then a lot more white trucks with just a Kananaskis logo on the door with a orange light on top going by. One of the campground attendants came by and asked us to leave our campground and all the food and such and come over towards their trailer and lock up area immediately. The white trucks were 'bear trackers' and we had a momma grizzly and two cubs about 100 feet or less just down a slope grazing and too close for comfort. We never saw them, but knowing is close enough. Glad that they do track especially with all the 1000's of campsites in the area which is a major grizzly area and migration route too! They said it was better to have them find the food on the picnic table than to have us running away with the food from them Sadly, not even LBO was seen on this trip.

    Chapter 50

I brought up the same thing with Krista, Tim. So we did discuss it and we found that in some Southern states this is still what HS students have to do. Without getting political, I wonder with the violence issues at schools, if it is safer to be in a closed school rather than have people coming and going. If we want to discuss the idea of closed or open schools and safety, I think we’d need to go off to the Pit. Back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, my HS had no such policy, and if we did I’d be saying we too would had riots and revolts. Also brought up this whole ‘tardy’ system. Never heard about in my neck of the woods. Heck, some of my friends were on self attendance meaning the school didn’t contact parents unless you were missing more than two days. Maybe not the safest, but a different world back then to what we have today.
  20. Hey all, I'm up at 3:00 and doing the update And have to be up at 7 again Just going to do an abbreviated version of the Wrap Up today. The Review Team crosses quills with The Prompt Team. Each chapter of Sasha’s story was inspired by a Friday prompt. The result is a diverse collection of unique short stories that reflect the exceptional talent of the author as well as shows the many ways prompts can be used and/or twisted into stories. There are first-line chapters (“Just slowly rub it in, why don’t you!”), teasers for existing series, superheroes, and stories that make you laugh out loud, grin madly, and some chapters even make you cry. 23. RIP Carlos Hazday After the news the previous week of hearing of the passing of Carlos Hazday, one of the sites most prolific authors from him contributing in so many ways, we held off on the GA News Blog to give everyone the time and Carlos the small amount of respect we could afford him. In case you haven't been on site for a few weeks, here is the blog that was created to acknowledge him and his life as we know it. Saturday marked the close of the Secret Author contest submitted entries. Just in case you are not over the International Date Line, like in Hawaii, you might have a chance to get your story in after this blog makes it's appearance. I'm pretty sure @Cia knows how many entries we have had submitted but as seems to be the theme of this contest, it remains a secret . Let's anxiously wait to see what and who contributed an entry.
