    Nate is facing his future with great thought and consideration. Yes, there will be culture shock, but that will only serve to reinforce what he wants for his future. Wonderfully warm and lovely chapter!

    Lachlan is once again being shown as a totally irrational parent who doesn't think his son is a person, but rather property for him to use as he sees fit. If the company he heads was handed to him from his father, I wonder if Jock might have some say in whether Lachlan stays in position as the CEO? I can only second the comments of @Seraph28 and @Summerabbacat.

    Daisy is the epitome of what it means to be a parent, friend, neighbor. She walks the walk as she talks the talk - a true role model of what we each should strive to be! I was surprised that Colton was there, but it was exactly where he needed to be and experience the love and support which he will need to finally be true to himself. And now, off on the road trip to resolve the way that Jackson left Blake.

    Previous chapters led me to believe that Brad was a friend a lot longer than junior year in high school, but that might just be an assumption on my part. Still, this chapter does show more of the motivation that drives Lyn.

    A lovely chapter which left me feeling satisfied that relationships are growing in depth and that Gray is actually becoming more socially involved. Matt is surprising: from the reluctant man we first encountered to the very comfortable-in-his-own-skin man that he has evolved into, He even surprised Gray by saying that he's not upset being referred to as his boyfriend to Gilly: “It’s OK. I am, aren’t I?” I admit my ignorance of the word "lary/lairy". I have never come across it before. Interesting word!

    It is not unknown that a child is the opposite of parents. Rory's father may well have rebelled against his "liberal" parents, preferring to be more "stable" in his actions/beliefs. We only need to reflect on our society today where people raised in more open and accepting families are now embracing authoritarianism.

    Would that Jock's son (Rory's father) could be as loving and supportive! That was a truly beautiful scene. The weekend was successful for both Jason and Gavin and also the boys!

    I'm especially impressed that Gray seems to be putting down roots and is feeling a part of a family! That he even volunteers to assist at the Clothing drive is major growth and evidence of his growth! Great chapter!

    Even without acknowledgement, Lyn is very loyal to his friends. Alexander's armor softened just a bit at Lyn's defense of him. However, the armor stiffened back on the appearance of Brad.

    The first time I heard Ma Vlast I was completely enamored! It is a glorious piece of music! Audra is both cautious but loving in her approach with Slav. She is a very protective grandmother, but puts her grandson's welfare/happiness above all. I would also enjoy viewing the conversation between Audra and her son and daughter-in-law prior to the lunch with Rory, et al... It would be an eye-opening scene.

    Communes work when all involved share their skills. How long they last (or lasted in the 70's) depended on so many factors, among them health care or the lack thereof. Jake and Danny are idealists building a dream together. Nate is right to have some concern: Nate loved seeing the passion that Jake had for the project, but he could also see Danny’s scepticism. He hoped that this wouldn’t be something that might come between his friends.

    In your wonderfully descriptive manner, @Robert Hugill, I was able to vicariously enjoy the walk and the nature presented along with sharing in the conversations that were easy, friendly, humorous, and quite natural. Great writing!

    What some call "Christianity" bears no resemblance to the teachings of Jesus but a smorgasbord of what they want to quote from Scriptures often mistranslated and only to prove their point of view. That is sad and yet reinforced by too many! Breaking away from that mindset can be a lonely journey unless one finds a community based on the words of Jesus. They exist! And the words "You are loved" because God is Love apply! I put the heart emoji as a reaction because of the raw emotion expressed and the experience that it speaks. Yet, I also want to add the sad emoji for the content.

    The central theme of family building and living has expanded in this chapter! Family is not only or necessarily those related by blood, but by decision. After all, in hetero marriage, a man and a woman decide to create a family grouping, so it is with a gay couple - they decide to create a family group too! It is good to see Jason referring to Gavin as his boyfriend and not complicate it by the term "brother in law". I do believe Rory's grandparents will also be a very integral part of this family too.

    Whether Alexander says so, he was truly touched by the gift. He is so much a Charles Emerson Winchester, III, that it is not in his nature to be effusive verbally. Still, it is very evident how much he truly cares for Lyn! That Lyn worked so hard to buy that book is a testament to his loyalty to his friends and not wanting to hurt them!

    I put a "like" emoji to this statement even though it makes me at once angry and sad. That we are seemingly returning to that mental attitude once again in the U.S., I hope reason eventually returns! Nate says about his near future: "But I knew that I had to make an effort though, you know, before I sign my life away." Does this imply that he hasn't fully committed to the Army yet and might well just stay in this idyllic place?

    @peter rietbergen is on point with the challenge of creating an audience for an artist/author: it will take some readings that might be initially distasteful to Gray to establish a reading audience. A private reading for a thousand is a brilliant suggestion. Two conversations are really good in this chapter - those with Bas and Dawn always give insight and clarity.

    I'm binge reading this story now and this was the most powerful chapter yet! @Seraph28 has said what I feel more eloquently than I could! Would that every child had a parent as fiercely devoted as Daisy Bell! We would have a much better society!

    Cupid is working wonders again! All is going swimmingly, so to speak, up until the last line which brings us to wonder what this is all about! It's good that Daniel sees the need for some counseling and is willing to go to it.

    Gavin has become quite the insightful and open man! His quick assessment of Slav and his openness to the relationship to Rory was quickly encouraged! And yes, the Higgins household has become quite the sanctuary!

    As happens often in life, although perhaps not often enough, those that deserved it, lived happily ever after. Those that didn't, well... While everyone but M-L ended up well, so many things could have interrupted these happy endings, but that was not the way things happened here. Too often, good people work hard and still meet challenges that interrupt their positive journey. Glad to see good come out of all that these kids had endured.

    Each chapter finds the Philpotts getting closer as a family and more relaxed with each other. Do we need to know more about Peter and his past? What is important is his present and his relationship with Vince and Freddie! I loved the interaction of Gray with modern technology - website, and Freddie's suggestion of other forms of getting his work out there via the modern forms of advertising (the apps). However, as someone of a more advanced age, I do agree with @Summerabbacat about not participating in those apps. I do have Facebook, but don't post - only wish others Happy Birthday/Anniversary - and getting caught in the rabbit hole of watching the Reels,lol!
