Always Getting it Wrong
pvtguy commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Always Getting it Wrong
For a long time, Shaun was the one to help Joey see things rationally. He is impulsive and highly emotional - things he needs to learn to control. With Roman's help and also Jack's, Joey will be more comfortable in his own skin. Pay is always a source of concern especially when one is not earning a lot. Yet, Jack does not see the "benefits" that he receives in his overall compensation: room, board, etc. Ah, youth! -
Coming Out Of The Jungle Into The Savannah
pvtguy commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Coming Out Of The Jungle Into The Savannah
The minds of teenagers is certainly very accurately portrayed in this story and especially in this chapter. Jack has helped Joey to step back and evaluate his actions which have already begun to change his ways. I can only repeat much of what has been said in the other comments which are very astute. Another wonderful chapter! -
Shaun Hits the Nuclear Button
pvtguy commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Shaun Hits the Nuclear Button
In his way, Shaun was most likely not trying to end his life but to punish Jack and Joey with the idea he would come back to taunt them. Suicide is such a permanent answer to a temporary question. A sad situation for sure, but, as a development in the story, a twist for sure! -
Confronting the Worst Day of my Life - Part 2
pvtguy commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Confronting the Worst Day of my Life - Part 2
Shaun has had a full breakdown on the level of paranoid schizophrenia! His parents have certainly played a part in his attitudes, but I do believe there is a chemical/physical component that needs to be diagnosed and treated. He's going to need Joey's support after treatment, if his parents do get him real help. Great chapter! Very heavy but very informative. -
So reminiscent of the stories I grew up with. I had an aunt who died at 26. I was only 5, but remember the pall that came over the family for so long. Still, look at how the remaining family pulled together.

Confronting the Worst Day of my Life - Part 1
pvtguy commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Confronting the Worst Day of my Life - Part 1
And what would we have without the a-hole parents somewhere in a teen story? You've accurately described how many would act in a high school at such news, though I should hope that in today's world, it would not be that dramatic everywhere. Surely, there are some supportive students besides Toby and Dean. And now on to the next chapter! -
And so Kyle is facing the consequences of borrowing from a loan shark! Matias seems naive about the "one last job"...as Kyle has pointed out. Is it possible to exit from this downward pull?

Stepping on Troubled Times
pvtguy commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Stepping on Troubled Times
I didn't see that but could understand the interpretation. I was thinking more along the line of pranks like farting and running. That was more like what we did as kids... -

I didn't pick up that interpretation from the conversation between Roman and Joey? What led you to this conclusion? I would agree with your thoughts on Shaun and Joey. Thus, it will be interesting to see the resolution. -

Jack is remarkably very astute in his assessment of things. The meeting between Shaun and Joey ought to be very interesting, to say the least. Jack's mum is truly remarkable in her acceptance and her parenting skills! -
Shaun is playing games: he's telling Jack one story and Joey another. If honesty was his motive, he would have stated any thoughts to his best friend, but he did not. Yes, teenage/immature behavior. I don't applaud what Joey did either: physical violence is rarely if ever a solution, but it might just shake Shaun up enough. If Shaun values Joey's friendship, he will apologize for his actions too! And he will be honest with his feelings as well as be honest with his parents.

So interesting to see what happens with high levels of testosterone enter the picture with friends, especially when 2 of the 3 are discovering their sexuality is not that of the 3rd. It would seem the only "sane" one is Joey! He has a supportive family and he actually has a rational side. All the others need serious counseling!! I'm eager to see how this plays out!
-
Very powerful chapter! I hope it has influence on readers to encourage others to report abuse! Still, you certainly capture the mental and emotional situations of the abused! Excellent work!!!
-
Joey is on a quick discovery of himself and seems very quick in calmly accepting his feelings. I really like this story!!!
-
I do agree with @Canuk: this conversation would not have taken place with anyone when I was their age! Hell, it didn't even happen for me at twice that age! Well done! In for interesting times.

Dean's actions with Joey's "girlfriend" happened before his recent "evolution". He was an ass, for sure, but I'll be the underlying issues were still present and he was just trying to prove something to himself. At least I hope that's part of it. I can only echo the comments above about Joey's parents and their involvement and Joey's being faced with Jack's "confrontation".

I feel conflicted in saying I "loved" this chapter - I love how well written and presented it is - not the content - for that I am angry, wanting to rip a couple of people into shreds! How a parent (father or mother) could be that abusive leaves me shaking, for I was married to a woman who was abusive to our son - hence, I became a single parent and dumped her. Thank God she never left bruises, but it was heading that way. I could have easily ended in jail/prison if she had done more than she did. The emotional abuse has left him totally having nothing to do with her since he was in middle school (when we separated and divorced). Can't wait to see how this story turns out! Another great story by James Matthews!

Having lived an early life somewhat similar to what is described here - living with just basics, struggling for but never denied those essentials - this story resonates so much with me. Great writing.
-
Matias' parents will be shocked if they find out what he is really doing for his work! Kyle is a normal teen - naive about the consequences of being with Matias.
-
I love how you have captured the teen angst, attitudes still present among people of all ages, and also dealing with an abusive alcoholic. I suspect Dean is about to reveal he was assaulted sexually...but I'll patiently (who am I kidding?) for he next posting!

Another wonderful volume in the story of Puppy. I do hope there is a Puppy 3 as I do want to see what happens with both Steven and Hunter. Puppy has come a long way since Greenstone and, if he truly reflects as Cindy has observed, he will see and appreciate the changes and the changes he still needs to accomplish. Please say there will be a Puppy 3!!! Wonderful writing, James!! Tony

Puppy is growing up, but both Steven and Hunter are giving in to too much testosterone as well as Steven's identity crisis. Loving the story still!!!
-
Kyle's life seems to be getting more complicated. Is his view of Matias somewhat skewed? Looking for more development of this story!
-
I, too, feel this could be the end, but surely hope not! I'm not ready to leave these wonderful characters. For one, I would like to know more about the living situation of Hunter and Taylor - has the place been cleaned up? Secondly, I also would like to see more of Cindy. So...you really can't end it now. Please?

I'm wondering when Amy invites Kyle to dinner...
