I love a good mystery built around a romance!
-
I am late getting to read this and can only echo the thoughts above. My first thought was that it was either Ethen or his dad...I'm looking forward to finding out.
-
The dynamics of the larger family remind me of gatherings of my relatives on Sundays at my grandparents' house where we would gather for dinner and sat for hours after talking.
-
A lovely ending to this part of their lives...I, too, hope we re-visit And, Mr. Matthews, you definitely know how to put words together quite masterfully!
-
What can go wrong with two teenagers doing this shady deal? Both Matias and Kyle are naive and that's going to backfire on them.
-
I would say that is total numbness - not creepy - withdrawing emotionally to shield from the pain he felt.
-
While sad for sure, there is still the element of hope at the end. Not all chapters in one's life always end in happiness - some are full of sadness. Yet, there is always the chance of growth through these experiences which bring about hope and faith. This is such a story. I am thankful you wrote it and have "enjoyed" every chapter, even the difficult ones. You have the talent of creating amazing characters with depth and plots that are most intriguing. Thank you for sharing your talent with us, the readers! Tony

For The World is Cruel But You Have Touched My Soul
pvtguy commented on James Matthews's story chapter in For The World is Cruel But You Have Touched My Soul
And when you bring on the drama, you bring on the drama! I feel for Jake, of course, but my feelings immediately go to Colin! Having lost his wife, and now his son, his life is now thrown into turmoil! So glad he had that final talk with Ethen.- 9 comments

So....a semi-soft porn chapter to emphasize the horniness and quick recovery time of teens! Very nice!

A Night He'll Remember, A Night He Won't Remember
pvtguy commented on James Matthews's story chapter in A Night He'll Remember, A Night He Won't Remember
Ah...teens, a party, booze...what can go wrong? Jake doesn't appear to be too serious about his diabetes. He needs to smarten up quickly for his own health and life! -
It is no fun to experience intense hypoglycemia (diabetic shock). I keep Coca Cola on hand at all times for such purposes and cookies in the car when I'm driving. I've had it come on suddenly - thank goodness, not as seriously as Jake did here - but when I feel it coming on, out come the cookies when in the car or a bottle of Coke when I'm home! And I monitor my sugar levels and insulin several times a day! It still happens! Jake seems not to do so as noted by Cody. The short by intensely frank conversation among the guys was needed and insightful. Let's see where it leads now. Watch out Luke!
-
I, too, am pushing for a Luke thing for Cody! The first thing I thought of was diabetic shock, too....You've got me looking forward to the next chapter...but then again, I always look forward to the next one, lol!!
-
I like Jake's penchant for honesty! He is very open with his life for the most part. Cody is in a tough place: kicked out of his home, just coming to terms with his sexuality, in a totally new/strange place, no friends yet, and having strong feelings for Jake which could be confused with his strong friendship and feeling safe with Jake. Ethan is pretty amazing for sure for a near-17 year old.

This chapter still sings the song that I grew up with - exactly as I remember it! The content of Addy's life and conversations rang true to what I grew up with. I do really love this story!

Your Words are Strong, My Fortress Weak
pvtguy commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Your Words are Strong, My Fortress Weak
Alan was superb in speaking with Craig! Will it have any effect -- that is to be seen. As for Cody and Jake - that, too, remains to be seen. Will Cody and Luke find each other attractive? Will things settle between them all? Ah...the drama of it all! So well done! -
Will this cycle ever end for Kyle? It seems not.
-
Great setting up of the plot for Cody and Jake to reconnect. And @weinerdog is correct: a proper last line!

Does Your Mother Know You're... Out
pvtguy commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Does Your Mother Know You're... Out
I just have one major concern: Jake is diabetic and takes insulin. Yet, he is always reaching for Orange juice, skipped lunch and ate potato chips only....Ouch! I am diabetic and on insulin (six shots daily, thank you!) - and know full well this is definitely NOT a diabetic friendly diet! Granted, Jenny does tell him to drink water in place of a soda, but nothing mentioned about orange juice? Just a side note... -
Does Your Mother Know You're... Out
pvtguy commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Does Your Mother Know You're... Out
I could guess what was going to happen with Cody - even to his coming to the U.S. - but that doesn't take away the absolute disgust I have for his mother! I can't say anything about his dad at the moment as I want to see his reaction before I react! The teen drama will just heat up from here on out...Eager to see what happens. And I am most interested in Callum: why hasn't anyone called the Department of Children and Families to ask them to do a well-check on Callum? Anyhow...somehow I have a scene playing out in my head - let's see how the story progresses and I'll see if my scene plays out. Well done! -
But he hasn't yet revealed his past to Jake...only told Ed he would.
-
Amazing - Jake has landed in "heaven"! Now that the scenery has been shown on the stage, it's time for the action to begin for real!
-
Well, it looks like Jake is off to a good start! My heart hurts for Cody - hope we stay in contact with him...
-
Cody will regret his decision at some point. He has a good friend in Kit - would that he would not be so stubborn! However, he is going to have his own struggle with his parents. And now on to the next chapter...
-
I have moved several times in my life and have always found it to be quite an adventure. Yes, there are lonely times initially - but it was the impetus for me to make friends and establish a network of supporting people. That takes time to develop for sure, but it does happen. The fact that I am basically an introvert and can find being alone not as isolating surely helps, but doesn't mean I don't enjoy friends. I do!
-
And where would the tension in a story be without some difficult views being a part of the plot? I, for one, look forward to seeing how Cody's parents react and what the results will be. Wonderful writing!! In response to weinerdog: the general process in most places is a 3-5 day committal to a psychiatric hospital or unit for observation and hopefully some counseling and/or medication. I have not found these to always be as fruitful as counseling afterwards for the "patient" and parents/loved one(s). A support group needs to be established where the "patient" feels accepted and experiences some unconditional love.
