OMG what a fantastic and bright performance of the complete work! It sure kept me in the right frame of mind as I spent that over-three-hours desperately trying to catch up on reading and reviewing. I'm still way behind but at least in a more uplifted mood. Thanks AC.

Thanks, Lisa! A small world is right and potentially getting much smaller. Stay tuned. As to Chuck's name change, I don't think he wants me to leak that info yet. So we'll need to wait. Tom seems to be quickly gaining Chuck's trust. I wonder why he was initially so hostile? He'll be there for Chuck too when the fireworks in the next chapter hit.

I seemed to have missed chapter four. So getting to experience two in a row was sorta nice in the read department. A big fat and juicy twofer. All the ignoring and deleting messages is about to bite Cory. The next chapter should be more than entertaining. But the remainder of the Cards should be careful. The hellion follows his orders. Thanks for such great writing, Dayne!

A wonderful chapter, Comsie. This has always been one of my favorite stories. The depths to which we can sink is staggering. Your gentle peek into Zack's head, his monumental effort to protect his mother and navigate his friends, his real battle with his father and the (real or imagined -- we're not sure) battle with his English teacher, it all swirls around our boy. As you title suggests, love is his only escape, and we sure as hell hope that it is embodied in Brody! Another satisfying chapter in an amazing story. Thank you so much!

A great chapter and the perfect place for Jackson (and us) to pause to reflect before the senior year. He grows more with each chapter. It was also nice to see more depth and caring from his friends, who have simply accepted Church because he's Jackson's friend. Very nice. The party sure shook the bushes, and things are settling in a slightly different configuration.

Thanks, Lisa! Yes, Sarah has lit a fire under Chuck. One that will bring together other characters -- and all squeezed in before he's off to New Haven!

Thanks, Lisa! I just discovered I hadn't replied to a few of the later chapter one reviews. Sooo - thanks for discovering The Valedictorian. I hope it entertains you. As I mentioned to some of the other reviewers, Chuck had more to say, that's why this story exists. And we'll have a few surprises along the way too. By now all your questions have been answered in subsequent chapters -- well, mostly

Thanks for finding this, CG! Chuck had more to say. I can't think of any other excuse. Yes, Chuck's father was Danny and Carl's father, although he never met him. David sussed it out in one of the chapters of 'Twoey' but I don't think it was mentioned any more than that once.

Thanks, jeff! I thought we were done with Daleville too. Well, we almost are. Chuck just convinced me there was more to him. I guess he felt short shrift.
-
Thanks, tim! Still being teens, this won't be everyone's cup of tea. But I'll try. They're almost out of high school. anyway.

Oh wow, Adrian has a hell of a decision to make. I wonder how creative he can be. I certainly don't envy him. But at least each boy made the statement to each other and so now there is no more mystery as to where their hearts are. Of course, that can make the problems which lie ahead even worse -- for a while at least. Great chapter, Ron!

OK, you know how dense I can be, at least when it comes to poetry. And I must admit, I was quite at sea as I repeated reading each of the first two stanzas. Why I did this before reading the third is as much a mystery to me as it must be to you. I just needed to understand what I could not see. But then the third stanza passed before my cloudy eyes and the sun broke through -- finally. That, by the way, my friend, is one hell of an octet. It made everything clear, but also stands alone in its beauty. Thanks for sharing this lovely Ballade with us (me).

We all need to ponder the proportions of things, as we cope with our upset wheelbarrows. And you do it beautifully, as you perpend, through poetry, the size of that tear life's nail makes in our favourite 'shirt.'

Thanks so much, Gary! Niles would have been perfect for a more mature Toph, but I think your big 'NO' is because he really offers 'this' Toph nothing. He's not going to drive him, he's not going to understand what he needs, he's not equipped to help him. Is Gary? We'll have to see. I think he understands the Toph of Early February better than Niles does. Toph never before had anyone in his life like Oscar. It seems he's grabbing onto that guy with both hands! Haha -- but he could do a lot worse. I agree with you. Oscar sees enormous potential beyond art in the fragile Toph.

Thanks, spikey! Yes. The dark year he referred to is exactly the one which followed the end of "18 Weeks." We'll have to wait to discover about how 'secret' the marriage was. But this was certainly the first time Tommy saw his brother since he left for Florida, which was only last summer. About Andy. There may be a surprise coming. Also, Shawn's attempt and Martha's action will have huge and far reaching effects -- so stay tuned! You may not have to wait long.

Thanks, Dayne! It's been three years since David's crisis. This is probably the only suicide attempt that has affected this group in that time, but we don't know what else has happened or, as you say, what other victims may be out there. There seems to a more tolerant group of young people, so there is likely a generational divide. Can the young'uns save the town?

It almost seemed like Terry was ready and eager to take Jae's place. If Dave does find Jae, will the younger man realize what Dave went through to get there? Will it make a difference? But Dave seems sure he can convince Jae to return with him. A good chapter, tim. One that lays out the path pretty clearly but, as will any path in this setting, a clear path is not necessarily and easy pass. Thanks for this chapter!

Well done, Cole! The reader felt everything the characters did. That's a wonderful accomplishment. A great story. There was the blindside too, but it was that we were carefully pulled into Dewey's 'explanation' of how things happened. You did that well, by making us suspect it first, only to have Dewey confirm it with his thoughts. If Dewey had made the statement first, before we suspected, we would have held it up to closer scrutiny. So all around well done and beautifully executed as you blindsided our investigative skills.

Thanks, Def! "This is forever, right?" I think those were David's words on their first day together. So marriage was not out of the question, especially if they witnessed what appeared to be a solid one between two other kids their age. I hope Martha was successful too, but something tells me these people don't give up easily. I'm sorry I shocked you. You know I never do stuff like that.
-
Thanks, jess! Yeah, the Nikon sort of vanished from our consideration. Who would have thought Tommy would have used it so well? Do you think David will stand a chance against Chuck?
-
Thanks, Parker! Chuck is moving pretty fast on his plan. And you're right, if anyplace needs what he's thinking of, Daleville is it. So, how does he convince David to help the town he hates? Now, before your lawyers appear at my door, don't pay any attention to what the other reviewers are saying. Andy is a common name. I could plausibly have been referring to someone else.
-
Thanks, Tim! Do you think Chuck is on his way to Florida to bring back a bag of money? Maybe he just wants to bring a housewarming present.
-
Thanks, Lux! Chuck is a force when he goes for something, isn't he? I wonder if he'll bring a wedding present. Shhh! Don't let Parker know.
-
A perfect little story, Def! I enjoyed being led astray. I have to admit, about halfway through, something - I'm not quite sure what -- but something you hinted led me to suspect half of what happened. So Dad didn't blindside me as much as did Carl! Now that made the story complete! I'm glad, however, that Brian had made the decision, before the discovery, to be true to who he was because of his love for Nate. So everything came together at exactly the right time. Lovely. Well done!

Faris and James: The Great Rat Race.
skinnydragon commented on Mikiesboy's story chapter in Faris and James: The Great Rat Race.
Great one tim! Just as light and airy as we've come to expect from James and Faris. The Great Rat-Race, indeed! Loved it!
