A very touching story well told. Many cars since, but that first car is still the one I remember the most. I enjoyed the tale of love and family that is told. It was a difficult time for same sex lovers, and usually led to short term relationships. A story like this is affirming and welcomed with gratitude to the author that has create this wonderful tale.
The description of the two battles was very vivid. Daeran has some scary powers, yet seems to be reluctant to use them. Joe and Rafe's battle was brilliant. There was no doubt in my mind that they were out to do their best against each other. The kidding that Andre got probably embarrassed him to the max, since it is so obviously true. However, I think it will still be some time before Rafe realises how much he loves Andre. This was a very exciting chapter to read.
To me, I think Frodd won. Not the match, but he was able to show an amazing use of skills and thinking. Mahogany wouldn't be a match for him if Mahogany was a first year. Frodd's pod is disappointing because they didn't provide encouragement before the match, and hostility instead of support after the match. I did enjoy the description of the battle. Mahogany was an interesting character, and his parting comment sounded a bit like advice.
Exquisitely written short story of a sad future that could be the world of our children and grandchildren. It is a powerful statement of what can happen if we do not unite to fight for the future of life on our planet. I reminds us that human rights need to be defended with vigilance and determination. It also reminds us that we will lose much if we do not take individual responsibility to protect those rights as well as protect life on our world.
A exquisitely written short story that pack a big punch. I too feel worried about the world we are leaving to our children and grandchildren. Even in the comments people are identifying the main problem we face as a planet of life. We need to be united and not splintered by terms like "left" or "right". We need to face the future together, analyze the problems, research and seek a consensus of what to do next. This story highlights the shortcomings that hinder us and allow the continued downward spiral. It does give hope that even in this dystopian society there are still people willing to fight for the rights of all humans. Thanks, Mawgrim!
What a nice Christmas! Very happy feelings and Rusty's gift was tremendous. I just hope he takes advantage and does it soon. I also appreciated the very explicit talk between Jonathan and Maddox. Maddox has it right, and Jonathan is thinking seriously about what will happen and not just running away again. The hot sex was a great bonus.
I loved Larkspur, but Sidewinder is the first story in the two novel set. I suggest starting there. Sidewinder starts a bit dark, but is amazing and makes Larkspur that much more enjoyable. It also has the biggest, longest cliffhanger I have ever read. If you like this, you will definitely love both the books.
I love mysteries and the event sounds like something I would like. I sneak into the GA writers' blog to see the advice given writers on GA. There is some great stuff to read there!
Hey Spike, How are you doing? Some advice for the upcoming tax burden: Claim as many dependants as you can. With all the additions to your herd, that should keep the tax bill down.
Hi Drew! I hope you and your family and the cute cats have a great weekend. Don't bother to tell me to go to bed. I'll be offline soon. Try to not start any wars tonight. BTW Don't you think Spike needs a little tax relief from the Imperial Tax? After all, he hasn't vexed you as much as the rest of us. Doesn't that count for something?
Smoke is very dangerous. Here in Chiang Mai during the burning season the PMI can get up to the 300-400 range. We have three air purifiers, and keep the air inside down to safe levels. I hope you don't have the problem for long.
Hi Albert! How are you and Steve today?
I can't believe that the peeps haven't commented yet on Gary's western. I have to tell you that kbois has also written an excellent short story on a nonbinary person living in a home with a mentally ill mother. It is a tour de force that deals realistically with the individuals without being dark. There are warnings, so you have to be careful, but I felt uplifted at the end. I highly recommend that story also.
I beta'd for AC Benus' short story "On the Grass" and can also recommend that story. This year's anthology has some great stories!
