  1. I thought of bibliophile also. But then pole came into play. Recall those performers who juggled spinning plates on the ends of poles? I would imagine doing it with oblong books would be nigh impossible. lol

    Chapter 20

I agree. I think calling them blooded or battle tested would be more accurate. Battle hardened implies much more experience than a single battle.

    Chapter 20

All I need is a Sad and Angry and I'll have hit all reactions in a single post. Geez.

    Chapter 20

It was Haley Joel who saw the dead folks, but agree on no more red eyed zombies. At least give 'em some Visine. No wonder they're so testy.

    Chapter 27 S2

Though transitioning into something small, letting the gator swallow him whole, and shifting to something big would have been interesting, but a bit messy. It wouldn't have passed under the radar as this did either.
  6. From the Greek bibliopōlēs to the Latin bibliopola (bookseller). Where would we book fiends be without them?

    Chapter 27 S2

I'm glad you agree Mac is demanding respect. If you haven't noticed before, Mac's mother likes to use these public venues this way.

    Chapter 27 S2

You play the field you're on. It doesn't appear this little assertion of adulthood offended anyone.

    Chapter 27 S2

    Devin's hangups bother me too.

    Chapter 27 S2

It's called asserting independence. It's what young people do when they start leaving the nest. I've been quite frustrated with Mac at times because he seems trapped in little boy mode. Good for him is what I say.

    Chapter 27 S2

Well, Devin's water ballet with the gator avoided some hysterical screams and lots of 'I told you so's' from Mac's mom. Given a choice, gator bit might be easier. They are plotting out how to placate parents next summer like a military campaign.
  12. I can definitely see this as an effective term to describe fleeing to a toilet.

    Chapter 20

Even if the Reds had managed to breach the Archive, it's hard to see how they would have survived. What has Aegir found now?
  14. For some bizarre reason, I was expecting a weird law.
  15. I just recalled being in an all night store at 2AM with a friend. Ahead of us in the aisle was a scantily clad woman with bleached blonde hair. My friend told me she was a stripper at a place on the county line. I can't name it because it contains a Google naughty word. Obviously, this is a high class joint. They have blocks of wood on the tables for patrons to pound out their approval. They sweep up the broken glass once a day, wipe the tables with the same rag all week, and keep the lights low to limit exposing some of the less alluring aspects of their performers. What sticks in my mind even after many years is the bottoms of her bare feet were completely black. Damn they must have lit that dive with nightlights.
  16. It's also the answer to the question of what to put on your resume when artfully removing clothes is your only job experience.
  17. A word coined in 1940 by the redoubtable H. L. Mencken.
  18. From the Greek kallipygos.

Oh, it had wands, we just never saw them.

    Chapter 1

before I developed my dislike for deadlines. Deadlines suck. I've never liked them.

    Chapter 19

Probably one of the worst ways to insult a Japanese, imply they're Chinese, Korean, etc.

    Chapter 19

Have you been here from China long?

    Chapter 19

We aren't getting to see much of the action in this version. We're only skimming the surface and it's 40 grit sandpaper.
  24. Pull this one out at Scrabble.
