    Chapter 11

The threat is so simple and seemingly benign in just electronic emissions toxic to Mithras. Reynolds shielded the device, but why didn't he just destroy it?

    Chapter 10

It seems obvious their planet has no resources the Earth needs. It's an outpost happily surviving on its own. Its discovery solves a mystery, but more potential settlers would disrupt the delicate balance. Perhaps Captain Reynolds can keep a secret.

    Chapter 9

In the words of Einstein, "God doesn't play dice with the universe."

    Chapter 9

But when you're dealing with the mystical and supernatural, really what is luck and random? Couldn't a run of bad luck wipe out a whole family line in a few years?

    Chapter 3

There has been a marked change from the first sacrifices to Peter Miller's. They knew they would die while Peter did not. At some point secrecy became necessary.

    Chapter 2

If you look back at the sacrifices in history, the sacrifice is always as pristine as possible. Even the God of the Old Testament didn't look favorably on nitty sacrifices.

    Chapter 1

And experts are those who know more and more about less and less.

    Chapter 1

Well, consider how long man has lived on Earth and how far we've progressed. Not all of the progress has been good. As much as we know, we are still woefully ignorant.
  9. I haven't watched any new TV series in years because they either screw up or cancel the ones I like most.
  10. Like the Latin words it's derived from, content has different meanings when used as a noun, adjective, or verb. At least in Latin the words are all different, while we end up being content with the content of this website.
  11. Twenty two times and not just Watson.

    The Void Gate

Everyone is under the illusion they are in charge. When will Byron find out he's the real puppet here?
  13. From the Middle English overjoien, meaning to rejoice over or gloat.
  14. I'm aware. It didn't involve as many nations or cover as much territory.
  15. It was limited in scope to North America and had fewer players.
  16. I've been telling for years and Napoleon is still short. Poor guy has a complex about it.
  17. Well yeah, but he wasn't Napoleon.
  18. Well, Napoleon stirred up enough trouble to not exactly be loved. The Napoleonic Wars were the closest thing to a world war anyone had seen. It's natural to denigrate and make fun of what we don't like. And those 'facts' tend to endure.
  19. Glee is from the Old English gliu, gliw, gleow, meaning entertainment or mirth. Since its early meanings imply music, it's easy to see where glee club came from.
  20. Napoleon wasn't actually so short. At the time the French used a different measurement system with shorter inches, so the French 5 feet 2 inch was really 5 feet 7 inches. Pretty respectable height for early 1800's France.

    Chapter 25

"The Void and I are old friends. It's never mentioned you.” I loved this. I never thought about how traumatic Alec's leaving would be for River.
  22. Well, he didn't gift her the fabulous necklace he bought in Russia. I imagine he's saving it for his daughter.
  23. Not to overlook the dessert.
