Fritz's death hit George hard. The invasion plans for India just amps up the stress.

It's ironic the Tsar has chosen to keep the instruments of his doom close at hand.

Pavel's wife was surprising. The bit about the Tsar's spies being so easily coopted was funny.

George and Daventry's profession of brotherhood was moving and we learned his first name at last, Charles.

Paul had only been in residence here for four days at this point and it was abandoned as a royal residence immediately after his death, becoming an engineering college.

George has scored some Beef Stroganoff.

Hopefully the young countess will lose her petulance with age. I loved George's butler solution.

George is not comfortable involving himself in a coup against another monarch and Daventry is giving his honor an out so he can claim provisional ignorance. It's a good move for both and why they work so well together.

Vincenzo's vibe was screaming straight boy since we first saw him and his comment about the girl clinched it. Oh yeah, so right about the food. Now I want spaghetti.

I could see this rejection coming like watching two trains converging on the same distant track. The clues about Vincenzo were there, but Cosmo was too oblivious to see them. Vincenzo was equally blind. I find it funny they, Cosmo and Vincenzo, are like elementary school kids where the age difference of a year or so younger is like a chasm. Vincenzo calls Cosmo kid and Cosmo calls Marco kid. Cosmo still hasn't escaped his past. He shoplifted a thimble, a silly and worthless thing, because he could. And now a physical connection to Cosmo's past is here when he's at his lowest and most vulnerable point and I think it's not unlikely he may have a concussion from the blow to the head.

This chapter was both frightening and reassuring. The Knavesmire curse nearly ended Nathan at the hands of his friend Brohm until Morgana breaks the spell. We find out Nathan is still affected by residual magic from the ring which Morgana considers the inexpert work of an amateur. Apparently even money and power can't ensure you always get the best work. Morgana's cottage is a safe respite before they continue their journey.
