  1. I'm reluctant to make a prediction, but
  2. I really like this story, Duncan. I can't express myself the way the Cynical Romantic does; she has said it all. It surprises me that a story with so much sadness in can be so beautiful. Please keep us spellbound. Thanks.
  3. Believe it or not, the military is a laugh riot. Once while in basic training, I was on KP duty (no, it's not punishment). The mess sergeant told one of the other recruits, "Get down that big pot and fill it half full of water. Then take all these eggs and put them in the water. Be careful." When the mess sergeant came back from smoking a cigarette, he found that the soldier had very carefully cracked each egg (a case of 30 dozen) into the water. That is believed to be the only time in U S Army history that basic trainees were served poached eggs for breakfast. We were still laughing about it when we graduated two months later.
  4. Usually once per week, typically, but not necessarily, on Fridays.
  5. I agree that is likely. I keep forgetting there is much less misdirection here than in a goat story.
  6. I like this chapter, Nick. The big day is at hand and Dennis meets some of Gerald's family. A bit of a cliffhanger .
  7. Family. Grits or black-eyed peas?
  8. Please observe the leash laws. Even Tennessee has places you should pass by. Try Nashville or Memphis.
  9. Home. Grits or turnip greens?
  10. Many authors do state in the disclaimer or other headnote that they encourage safe sex even though it is not explicitly demonstrated in their stories. Of course, many readers skip these intros and go straight to the "good stuff". If authors or site administrators could find a way to promote safe sex without impinging on the story, that would be great. They could say "always use a condom" or, as I heard someone say years ago, "you won't catch AIDS if you just sit on your butt and keep your mouth shut".
  11. CAUTION: POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW! Worthington is mired in paperwork. What is he? A GS-24? The Prez is on his case for a progress report. He has good secretarial help, but they mostly just bring him more paperwork. Meanwhile his personal life is suffering. Kyle is in Phoenix and Colin is unhappy. Dan, this was a good and important chapter, especially the measure of success with the Ferdun. I'm looking for a climatic final two chapters and a happy ending. I know you won't disappoint.
  12. Chapter 28 of Rich Boy:Growing Pains has been posted.
  13. I guess so. You live on the dark side of the earth.
  14. I guess we're all a little on edge awaiting RB2/28. Some of us have just been awake longer than others. Some of us will get a nap in before it arrives.
  15. I voted yes. Kevin and previous posters have covered the subject well. You could argue that responsibility and culpability are not the same thing, culpability being a legal concept. One example: In some jurisdictions, parents may be held legally responsible for the criminal conduct of under aged children even though the parents did nothing to promote the conduct. The reasoning is that the parents had a responsibility to properly supervise the children.
  16. Me too. Haven't been to Nifty in a couple of years. I also like Ron, the only writer at www.themustardjar.com
  17. Carl has released Chapter 11 of The Artists.
  18. I must have read too fast, Nick. I missed all the things you promised in the announcement. Then I read the announcement again. Very good! I enjoyed it none the less. It is a very good chapter with a lot of good things happening for Dennis, Gerald and even Peter. Thanks for keeping the story going.
  19. Go for it, Robbie.
  20. You may be interested in Dick Morris' article about Obama's flip-flopping. http://www.dickmorris.com/blog/2008/07/16/...-tied/#more-378
  21. Krista, I have just read Roommates. It is a wonderful story with a happy ending...just what I needed. Thanks.
  22. Somehow, I don't think you will have any problem telling your sister. Good luck!
  23. That raises an interesting question: Do gays have a better driving record as a group than do straights?
  24. I really don't think that is what he meant. I do understand it is tongue in cheek.
