    Chapter 2

I’m wondering about what this idea might be. Can’t wait to find out.

    Chapter 1

I liked this chapter very much. You give me a vivid picture of the scene, and of the characters who I am already growing to like.
  4. I have enjoyed watching the relationship between Geoff and Tony grow and blossom. Theirs is a story of quiet delight in each other. It should be so for everyone, no matter who their hearts are drawn to. Perhaps Joy can see that at last.

I’m very glad you could connect with this, both the story and the form. If anyone ever recites this (or reads it aloud) at a campfire or cheerful gathering, then my spirit will be there, and smiling. Thank you so much for your encouraging response.

You were most kind in your response. Thank you. It’s especially good that the kind of dream sense I’d hoped for worked. I m glad you liked this!

Sam McGee was part of my growing up. Perhaps it whispered in my unconscious ear as I wrote. I’m very happy you enjoyed this!

I’m so very happy you liked this. Not the way the story was supposed to get written, but sometimes things go that way. Thanks very much for reading and responding to this.

I’m aware of medieval ballads, but that tradition failed to occur to me. I fear I have some egg on my face.

Thank you for reading this Thorn. Your response made me smile. I’m very grateful. It might sound like music - but there’s an awful lot of verses.

    GMA XXV

What a chapter. I feel for Ritchie, it’s hard breaking up. But the progress on CJ and Owen’s house looks good. Hope I get invited to the housewarming. And then the message from Chipper... someone’s going to discover it doesn’t pay to mess with the Squad.

Thank you so much for reading this, and for your comments. Thomson’s story is fascinating, and tragic. You’re right in that it deserves to be better known, along with his work. This tale came from my longtime interest in the tales woven into the history of the North. I’m very happy you enjoyed this.

I’m glad that you found magic on this journey, as I did. This was a truly fascinating time in history, and one which asserted itself in my brain as I wrote. There is indeed magic in the embrace of another. Perhaps someone will recite this around a campfire in the far north this summer or fall; and when that happens, I shall smile. Thanks so much for reading this, and for your response.

    Chapter 1

I had such fun reading and imagining this. Your powers of creation are amazing. I look forward to more collaborations!
  17. Yes. I have a sketch in mind, but significant problems remain in the latter half of the plot. But it hasn’t gone away...

Once the first two lines formed, the rest just flowed from the pen. It was uncanny, even if my notes proved unnecessary. I like your idea for Oregon Trail. It would indeed be epic. Thanks so much for making this better, and for your encouragement.

I am so glad you read it out aloud; still happier that the poetic approach didn’t put you off. I may go adventuring in the northern lakes one day myself... thanks so much for reading this.

    Dead Ringer

That was a fantastic read. You took one of my favorite themes and developed into a story I raced through, then read again to savor. Thank you!

I will let you decide about what happened. But his muscles were indeed sore. I’m very happy you enjoyed this. It’s a fascinating period in history to me.

Thank you, @MacGreg. I first thought of it as a story, but it kept coming out in lyric poetry.

    Voyageur

I paddled on a northern lake and mopped a weary brow; my arms had started in to ache, the wind blew o’er the bow, for many miles I had to make and waves through which to plow. Far up ahead amongst the spruce some comfort I might find; a lean-to built so to induce the traveler inclined to rest awhile with loon and moose if critters he don’t mind. The northwest wind was not ashamed to roar agai
  24. Two and a half centuries ago, men ventured into the wild unknown north and west. They trapped and traded for furs, often gone from civilization for months and years at a stretch. This is one tale from what was once called the Inland Empire.
  25. Such a marvelous chapter. Let those arrows fly. Diego and Azrael might just rock the heavens. Wait, since when were thunderstorms in the forecast?
