You're getting ahead of me now!

This is actually one of my most personal stories, yes.

For too long education in the western world has been formulaic, setting a standard that each student has to meet, rather than tailoring the education to meet the needs and abilities of the student. That has changed somewhat, and we may at last be entering an era where each student gets the education he or she desires and needs. Some things are basic, and everyone needs to know them. But I agree that the largest percentage of adults need no math beyond that necessary to handle their finances in a decent manner. Andy yet, there is also something to be said for exploring math a little, because it does open up new ways of seeing and understanding things, and gives us a wider view of the world. So higher math should be an elective course, and for those that find it is not for them, without affect on the GPA should it be abandoned. Some of the competitive aspects of education need to be traded away for more realistic and long-term (and productive) goals. Eventually we may arrive at educating the individual instead of just the group. Then we'll actually have something!

This is an excellent story. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Apparently, modesty is only for those who can't rip the door off your truck and then your head from your body. I've tried to convey the zombie as a mishmash of old ways and new thinking, an adaptation to new circumstances. As with normal people, those adaptations would be quite unique. Most films and books have portrayed zombies as all of a kind, basically. I wanted one that was just a little different. For reasons you will see very soon.

It does seem to be the people that have the most to lose and the least to gain that carry us forward. Thanks for the kind words.

Being able to discuss the pain is the first step towards moving on from it. Being able to discuss it eloquently means you have finally walked all the way around it, and seen every side. Here is where you start anew. As you have done here. It's the right direction to be moving. You deserve a smile. Here... 🙂

The kids have walkie talkies, and have not focused on other communications because there has been no need to do so. As for books on zombie traps in the library - is there such a thing? If the world basically ended tomorrow due to some unprecedented event, how could you look up ways to deal with that event in the library other than in fictional imaginings? There would be no zombie experts before the fact, certainly. And, they're kids. Surviving is enough for them, for the moment.

Well, the zombie here seems to have a kind of odd view of the the world, and it seemed harmless enough to try to use mannequins as a lure. I didn't remember that such a ploy was used in reverse in I Am Legend. But I did admire the portrayal of those zombies as actually frightening. Shambling and mute is not all that scary. Fast and vocal is. But there the similarity ends, as you will eventually see.

I have called a few of my cars by nicknames, but it's usually just a shortening of the make or model name. I would feel kind of weird calling my car Ralph or something, at least until I crawled under it and made certain it was a male. 😊

I talk to a lot of my machines, including my car. Always have. Never received a concrete answer, but like to suppose that some reactions I get are at least an expression of opinion. Hey, if you can't talk to inanimate objects and treat them like friends, what is this world coming to? 😊

I agree with you. I would want to know what others might know, but I'd be damn careful about contacting anyone. Zombies can be downright terrifying, but other people can kill you!

Haha. I think it might actually be natural for anyone to have a moment's pause in dealing with such a thing as this zombie. It would be one thing if i knew what had caused the zombie to be what he was. But not knowing, I would wonder what happened, and also wonder how much human was left inside. Killing anything should never be a quick and thoughtless act. But doubt is one thing, and reality is another. You'll just have to wait and see!

Great comment, thank you. Actually, it would be hard to underestimate a zombie. I would tend to grant a creature like that MORE power and ability, just because it would be so intimidating. I remember the slow, shuffling zombies in Romero's original Night of the Living Dead, and thought at the time I saw it as a kid that, 'hell, only a really slow dude on his feet couldn't outrun those!" I prefer a zombie that is superhuman, to one that is subhuman. Looks like you agree!
