    Chapter 41

I know some don't like Calvert very much, but I am happy they are good again, Calvert is my favorite George's lover. While it was stupid of him promising things to Gaitling that he cannot follow, it was also unfair of George to condemn him without talking to him, specially because George himself has other people he loves, and that Francis has to endure. Francis needs love as well, and maybe because he is not an aristocrat he can't be like George, he needs some emotional security. George, true to his brethren, almost has an hierarchy of loves, and he loves many, since behind his composed facade, he his a kind and passionate man. While Travers was George's strength and ideal, the man he admired as first love and helped him transition from boy to manhood (I believe that, although probably less intense, Chartley took Travers place as being George's strength), Cavendish is George's mind, someone from the same breed, that completely understands him and that's why they are so in tune. But the reason I am so fond of Calvert it that as different as he his from George, Francis is George's deepest soul, the one that sees him bare behind all his barriers. George needs it, needs them all. Like he needs Caroline as his partner. George's relationships made me think of a movie from some years ago, the Duchess, here in the end the Duchess, the Duke and his mistress end up living happy together. I hope them can find a balance together. Since Calvert don't seem worried about finding a wife, I can almost imagine all of them living their old days, maybe George will have some cottages or lodges build in his beautiful house to "help" his fellow officers. That would be a nice image and, the old sea captains and Caroline, seated in their terrace in Cowes, watching the Fleet.

    Chapter 29

With whom Mr. Llewellyn learned new things? Captain Hardy?
  3. It was a weird chapter, but there is no reason for Donovan to worry about his ex-boyfriend.

    Catchphrase

Can we please be nice to each other and respect other people opinions? Not liking one character actions doesn't mean not liking the story. I have to say, again, that even if I don't hate Shane, I dislike so many things of his current personality that I still don't thing he is good for Donovan, they are in different places in their lives. Even if the story about the catchphrase it is true it shows that he hasn’t learned a lot since that time, if he is still using it even after start dating Donovan and hanging out with his friends. It is disgusting and offensive. Plus, even if he was using it to joke, we as answering a comment that Davis guy did about his boyfriend (2 chapters ago). ““Seriously though, you’re different […] You don’t try and prove yourself by waving the flag or...doing a ridiculously embarrassing dance to Britney Spears in the middle of a bar,” he laughed, and I heard others join him. I was seething by his words. Just what Shane needed, someone to stroke his overly manly ego. “Well...yeah, I mean—I’m not a fag or anything, I just like a tight ass.” His words were followed by what sounded like an applaud of high fives.” Shouldn’t he have defended his boyfriend from being demeaned, instead of deflecting with a bad taste homophobic joke? If they didn’t feel guilty he wouldn’t have look “‘ified’ (mortified, terrified...and petrified)”. Even if everything is a misunderstanding the rest of his behavior that night looks reprehensible to me, and he still didn’t explain who the hell is Davis and why did he accept his “flirtatious way” and all the trash talk. The excuse that Donovan didn’t let him explain doesn’t really work, since if you want to say something you can just say it, even if the other person doesn’t want to listen. Drew did try to scream that we didn’t say anything at the party. I am curious on how everything will unfold, and please remember that in this online stories published one chapter at the time, the comments reflect what we readers know and feel at the present time, so they are quite more passionate and inflamed that a review of a hardcover book.
  6. Thanks Gary. It doesn't have to be "gay themed", I plan on doing it from books I read. Surely I will pay special attention to sexually, gender or just "different"types of characters, but it can be whatever, as long as it as good book. I just want to share and learn from others about books I might not know. There is no point is saying that The Lord of the Rings or the Song of Ice and Fire are great books, most people know them. So bring on your hidden gems
  7. I used to be an avid reader, and read tons of books when I was in school. Lately, with work and busier life I end up reading mostly online stories in GA (thanks again you wonderful authors), but I still like to hold "real" paper books from time to time. My idea with the blog entrances Book Club Suggestions is to share some a book in a particular category, and have you guys do the same (if someone joins me). When growing up I felt that most books I found and read were "strong heroes, sensitive princesses, ugly villains", and rarely touched "atypical" sexuality and/or gender differences. Thus being in GA I will probably have that in mind, but please feel free to share any good book. My suggestion for today in Fantasy is not actually a book, but a series of 3 books I read when I was a teenager/young adult: The Stone Dance of the Chameleon series by Ricardo Pinto starts with The Chosen, followed by The Standing Dead and finally The Third God. The author is a gay man, Portuguese descent that lives in the UK, and you can find the books on Amazon. These books tell the story of a teen boy in a strange world with a strong stratified society that values the purity of the blood above all. Being nicer than his peers, he doesn't seem to fit in the complex scheme of the imperial court, and we will learn how he deals with the notions of good and evil, of finding love and betrayal. The story is a little slow to start (which is reflected in the 3.5 stars on Amazon for book 1), but becomes more complex and interesting in the following books (book 3 has a rating of 4.5 stars on Amazon). What I liked in this story is that while it is fantasy, there is no magic of the usual kind, just a very complex caste society that it is very human in all its atrocities. Hope you enjoy, and please share a fantasy story you liked. PS: next entry will be either historic fiction or crime novels, so start thinking about your favorites =P

    Family Reunion

And that's the amazing thing about a good "art" or "creation", being a character in a story or a painting, the author puts them out there and they gain a live of their own. One never knows how people will see and react to what was started. I have heard painters say people found meanings that they were not aware in the beginning, and even here on GA I have read authors say that sometimes they hada an idea of story to begin with but while writing they don't know now how it will end, that they only know a character "is going to do or live something" when they suddenly wrote it.

    Family Reunion

That´s what I feel, even if the excuses are as moving as a possible sexual assault, not feeling "man"enough, and the behaviour in the bar to assert his masculinity, I think people people have to be responsible for theirs choices, the father excuse would work at 15y or 20ys, but in an independent mand with +30ys, it was is choice to demean Donovan, just bacause is verbal it is not a "joke". It´s like violent people or alcoholics are not excused from their actions just because they grew in those environments themselves, there is a point in development you start making your own personality, that's why some people are the complete opposite of their parents.
  10. I heard that in Will and Grace, but instead of Double Gold they call it Platinum Star Gay. I guess Ionly have Gold... Damn Mom
  11. No point repeating what @Valkyrie said, rape and sexual assault don't need violence and freezing is also a biological response to fear. You should report to the police and I am glad you are now able to slowly talk about it, and have a therapist. Hope with time you will get to feel safe again. Hugs

    Family Reunion

I understand what is having a hardtime on sexuality and family reactions, other is consecutively humiliate your partner in front of friends to make you feel better. Because in the end that´s what Shane did, whatever the underlying excuses are. Sure I can understand the harships on dealing with his father, and that excuses the way he treated Donovan before they start dating. I understand that a possible still unkown rape/sexual abuse might excuse him from how he behaved after sex and during the week (although we recused to talk with Donovan, who know nothing about it). But what happend in the bar in on Shane only, coming so well put together (even Donovan noticed that he had put more effort in his clothes) but with a date (yeah I know we still don't know more about who the asshole Davis his, but since he was not in the party, my guess that he might be family was probably wrong), then talking trash about Donovan like he was an object and in front of people that knows him is inexcusable (it was not just "cock" talk woth some random coworkers). I am curious to hear Shane explanations as a curiosity, but like Donovan in the previous chapter, I keep thinking if even with some parts missunderstood or incomplete, what he heard is enough to make it very hard to imagine they getting back together and keeping any self-respect. Same with the "friends", specially Drew, I would never be able to look to their face without feeling distrust. Even in real live I have heard people say that we "should mind" or "was just joking around" when this type of homophobic speech happens. That it's just "boys being boys" and people shouldn't be so sensitive. So there is a "game" of "what if" I like to play... What if it was a straight couple? Using our story characters, Drew for instance, What if it was his father talking about his mother, or a brother-in-law about a sister, saying "she is just a c*** I like to f***? Would that make it ok that he just "didn't say anything"? I know I am not great in the forgiving thing, but I actually wished Donovan had humiliated them more, specially Drew and Shane, maybe Shane would understand what he is feeling. I wonder what Shane's asshole father would think of his son getting screwed up with sex, doesn't sound very "manly". Finally, I understand why Donovan is still thinking about Shane, that´s actually why it hurts so much, it shows that the heart doesn't have an on and off switch. I heard a sentence once that I will try to translate here. People show not get what they wanted (because they might not know better), should get what they deserve (and Donovan sure deserves much better than Shane). PS: Donovan might hate Shane (love can mutate to hate quite well), I don't hate him, really hope that in a couple of years he can solve his things and be happy, just don't see how that can be with Donovan.
  13. It's just so strange the way Shane appeared with him. Not "Hey everyone this is my coworker/friend/family member Davis", just "This is Davis", it almost seems that he was bringing a date to a getting of friends. Moreover, what was said was hurtful in several ways, the homophobic comments should be enough to set Donovan, even if they were said as a "joke" or he heard them "out of the context". But after sex and not talking decently the whole week, hearing that he just like a "tight ass" would probably make Donovan feel cheated and used, specially since Shane behaved as a "total top" and didn't allow Donovan near is ass (Donovan seems to be a total versatile, loves to bottom but want ass too, specially Shane's).
  14. I think the question is, who the F is Davis?
  15. Even if there are more story behind it, David might be his brother for all I know, but there is no excuse for what was said. And any of the DAKS responded to that comment, so they are not better, even if they are nicer.

    The Best Year

Hello Krista I noticed you have the story on hold. First, hope everything is ok with you. Second, just wondering, did you quit the story, or just facing a block?
  20. Too close... But the way you write is irreprensible, as always. Thanks you Gary
  21. There might be a time when we will dislike Nathan, but every time I'm preparing myself to hate him, I end up liking him more. Although a year younger, Nathan is more mature than Robbie. I actually think that he is the right guy for Robbie, if Robbie finally starts growing and learns control, but I am not sure if Robbie is the right guy for Nathan. Alex, in my opinion, is definitely not boyfriend material, his has too many issues he needs to solve first.

    Chapter 8

Great chapter, I'm worried about Sean. I'm happy TJ is interacting better with Robert, but still think they should have a good "brotherly" relationship, your much older brother can be your guardian, starting to see Robert as father still feels forced for me.
