Cassiel has his own problems to deal with, so may not have been keeping an eye on Huntington.

I don't think Huntingdon has done his research properly. He may know about Caleb and Asa being mates, but because it's not been talked about much, he probably doesn't know that Caleb is Light Shifter because of the mating bond. This is where Caleb will fully redeem himself and bring Huntingdon down at the same time.
