Chapter 13 Fare Thee Well
FanLit commented on Headstall's story chapter in Chapter 13 Fare Thee Well
Chase’ll be sad at losing Dawson but it’s for the best possible reason and Chase was reminded that he isn’t alone, even though it isn’t Hank or Dawson. I think he needs the space of not having such an intimate friendship be his buffer, he can stand on his own now, though he may not want to. Check out the Chew Crew talking about Chase but not talking to Chase....fuck ‘em all. 🖕 Stacy is just what he needs right now. Now Hank is the one dealing with depression, yet no one seems to be trying to get him out of it, for some reason, I don’t want Chase to be the one reaching out to him. Though there are shadows, Chase is in his spring, for it is new beginnings that follow endings. Hank....I feel ambivalent about him right now. “If my bike was in good shape then my ass would be in good shape, so the answer is no.” I could’ve picked a line from Chase, Dawson or Charles but this was my favorite line of the chapter. -
Second of all...” He narrowed his eyes. “I know that you are lying right now. What else can he do?” I love Desmond’s lie detector!!!! “Maybe they did,” Gabriel shrugged, and Desmond looked at him with a stubborn frown. “Then how did he manage to kill Salamander with one goddamn jolt? Locks prevent that, you know.” “Maybe he managed to get out of them,” Gabriel shrugged again, and Desmond just sighed. “All three of them? I doubt even someone like him could do that... Let’s go scout the kitchen, Rayhe... I am hungry!” That there’s my proof they haven’t met Katrena. The connections between these four deepen and morph into paths I don’t think even they will understand. Gabriel showed what a good, decent man he is not just to Desmond but in general by giving his life to save Raven’s; This wasn’t even his journey (he came along with Desmond) but when Julian asked for his protection of Raven, he did it absolutely and paid the highest price. Thank goodness Julian came home in enough time and was able to reverse that particular stream. Raven and Desmond were the one with the tight bond before this, Raven will always remember what Gabriel did for him....for that matter, so will Julian aaannnd so will Desmond. What the hell are they dealing with?

Maybe it is Magda instead of Vivienne but was she locked up? Last I remember, she inhabited some guy’s body? And....that was the hottest frottage, ever.

Something tells me Vivienne isn’t dead....

“It is indeed fine,” he said very evenly. “They will stay here for...” He frowned for a second. “For a while,” he nodded. “Let them in or out...” He closed his eyes. “Fulfill their requests,” he finished in a strained tone of voice.“ At first I thought how it must rankle Julian to have Desmond and Gabriel in his house, then I realized whether he admits it or not, he has respect for the couple. It was when it came down to realizing they are key to saving Raven that I realized Julian would let anyone in his house. I’m very curious to know who is behind this and if this quartet is powerful enough to stop this.

Oh my. I don’t know how I missed this but I’m so glad to read it now. This story was beautiful, Gary, in the way that real love conquered prejudice and bigotry. Given the scandal of the priesthood in the Catholic Church, I could understand any church board member’s concern regarding impropriety amongst it’s clergy and parishioners, especially children. You can tell this inquiry wasn’t based on that, it came from the salacious gossip that likely inhabits Hilda’s world on a regular basis; She has a definition of a “good christian” and their appropriate behavior and apparently it involves throwing money at a cause (“I am the one who organizes all the funding for those endeavors to help the unfortunate.”) without a genuine interest in the “unfortunate” aided in these “endeavors”. Hilda showed no respect whatsoever for Colin’s privacy....he should never have had to lock his door to avoid an unannounced visit into his private domain....I’m curious about the meeting held to discuss Colin-were the three board members the only ones in attendance? (More than likely the board is comprised of like minded or easily bullied individuals) Colin allowed himself to be shamed about his feelings for Daniel, as though having a personal life would take away from his life of service....with Daniel as his partner, it would actually be enhanced. Thank God Daniel was willing fight for their love; Knowing the seedier side of life, he knows how special what they have is he and was willing to fight any devils to keep it. “And don’t you worry about the board. We’re going to have another meeting, aren’t we, folks?” William asked the now-standing parishioners, before staring pointedly at a seated Hilda. There was a lot of vigorous head nodding and smiles. “We’ll see you here next week, Reverend, but I think you’ll be hearing from someone before then, possibly with an apology and a commendation for all the good work you’ve been doing.” Yeah. Nicely done, Gary.

Snakes can be pretty long....tho I doubt you’d want the wreckage from that length (or what do I know 🤷♀️)

Our reviews were on very similar wavelengths on several points....great minds think alike. 😊 I didn’t touch upon the Chase/Christine aspect of the chapter but I do believe Chase’s grief is at that last phase of acceptance. He will always miss his mother but it’s something he’s learning to live with.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, indeed. I like how Dawson is putting his money where his mouth is, taking up the aggressive advise he gave to Chase but WOW!! that was a surprise I’m sure Chase in his new chapter mindset had designs on Dawson, thinking in the back of his mind that Carter was no competition for him and preparing to really see how much he and Dawson could have together; He knows he’s no competition for Brent and where he could’ve put doubt in Dawson’s mind and manipulated things his way, he chose to be who he is, a true friend who ultimately wouldn’t want Dawson through trickery (after all, he’s no Kev-ho). What I appreciate about Dawson’s pursuit is that while he hopes and intends he and Brent will be a couple, he’s doing this for his best friend because he needs the support; He knows this man inside and out and understands like no one else the pain and loneliness he must be feeling....he just wants to remind his best friend he isn’t alone. There will be quite the “what if” in Chase’s mind (and the readers) with Dawson’s departure but Dawson’s already played the “what if” game and he isn’t going to do so again. While deeply disappointing, I don’t think this will set Chase back. I hope they genuinely make an effort to stay in touch....even if they don’t, their place in each other’s lives are irreplaceable. Maybe Chase can see if the honeymoon suite is available in year or two after/if he and Hank work things out? (Just saying) 😁 I know that will be a long road to redemption/reconciliation, if that happens. To that end, will we ever know what really went down between Hank and skank? It won’t change anything except satisfying my nosiness. Are they really over? Good bye, Dawson, Safe travels to you and good luck with Brent, somehow I don’t think you’ll need it. Gary and my fellow readers....I wish you the greatest safety in these uncertain times. Be well. ❤️

Would always love to hear about Rob, Mark & Co. again.
-
Rob is so going to ugly cry on stage when he realizes what’s happening, lol. I love his relationship with Mark, how the sexual spark is still strong after so much time. I hope they do have children, a couple.

“Truly I tell you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

I think in a way this whole blow up was a blessing in disguise. Chase and Hank each had underlying issues that more than likely would have severely tested, if not broken them up. Every long term relationship reaches a certain comfort level, Chase and Hank’s allowed their issues to remain status quo-Chase’s depression (which I think existed before Christine’s illness and death?) and Hank’s insecurity, which was reflected in a hair trigger jealousy that never had a chance to show before. (Or did it?) I may be a little rusty here but I believe Hank was Chase’s first relationship; Hank found the man of his dreams but was fearful he’d wake up and move on to someone else....because who settles down with their first? (although some do). His mother cheating on his father and his father’s death due to indirect heartbreak left Hank with a huge crack of dysfunction in the foundation of what constitutes a healthy relationship. He tried to fix everything by being the perfect boyfriend and he was....but all along he never felt it (or he) was enough. Chase’s depression and grief placed an obvious imbalance on the relationship that became routine; That had to give eventually-better now before vows of forever were spoken. I don’t think Chase would have had this kind of progress had this not happened and even though I didn’t previously mention it, Hank’s acknowledgement that he was viewing Chase’s actions through his mother’s lens is huge. They can both heal, individually and together, if they both really want it. I’d have to think if their love was as deep as being portrayed, that they do.

👍 I will cease and desist with my COTT digs from now on, O wise writer.
-
You did leave them in a good place, with the house and the baby and everything else; It almost seemed too good to be true. Maybe an epilogue to wrap it up? It can revisit them quite some ways down the road.
-
This comment, plus my dig at the incomplete status of COTT in this same review thread is prompting me to reread it. It’s a sign, lol. Luckily there are 10 billion chapters so by the time I get to the last one, maybe Gary will finish it, (Tee Hee) *That’s my Casper the Friendly Ghost laugh*

Oh yeah and I forgot about that dream world thing they were in together in the last story. You’re right, Desmond and Raven are close. Desmond does hate Julian though and that was mutual....the only reason Desmond lives after Julian found out his hit was a bust was because he saved Julian’s life. (Remember when Raven was kidnapped and given that dirty water drug that was supposed to addict him but didn’t because one of his skills is a resistance to stuff like that?)
-
Would they help him, though? I’ve come to realize that Raven redeems Julian. Julian was a loathsome piece of shit who repeated raped Sam and other children (among his other crimes) and wanted Desmond killed (even though his reason was noble-Desmond killing the woman he loved but I digress). It wasn’t until Raven and Julian formed a connection that I gave a damn about Julian because Raven is pretty cool....if Raven sees something in Julian (besides the blood thing and the fact that their first sex was a rape as well) then it makes Julian a sliver of a chance redeemable (faith only needs to be the size of a mustard seed, right?) That was my long road way of saying that while I and other readers (I would think) might want Julian back (for Raven or whatever other reason), I don’t think it’s enough to sway either Gabriel or Desmond....or is it?

❤️ So beautifully said.

Did a “photo shoot” once, post hoe phase. (That man knew I was in love with his ass.) That ain’t happening anymore; Now if I do you, you do me too or you do me and I owe you one. Got a few “stick” pics out of that, lol.
