  1. Thank you so much, Topher! My partner grew up under Franco and was a bit of a rebel - throwing red paint over the statue of Franco in his village, etc. etc. His mother came to Valencia to help her sister whose husband was in the local monastery- basically an extermination camp - and stayed after he was executed. All war is awful, but civil war…. Warm regards
  2. I am not disappointed with your reaction! 😆
  3. I staggered out of bed the next day and headed for the bathroom. I needed the shower of a lifetime in order to wake up properly and to face the horrors ahead. I had slept on and off, tossing and turning as my mind reflected on the stresses of the previous day, which would be nothing, I knew, compared to the nightmare luncheon with my parents… and their guests. It was clear that my mother was deeply suspicious, of what exactly, it wasn’t yet totally clear. She had observed Gerardo’s enthusia
  4. Am just about to upload the next chp, title is "High Noon"... you can get the gist, I'm sure!
  5. If you think she was bad today….. tomorrow she shows her other side, which is worse!
  6. It was Monday and after the stress of the day before I was keen for a taste of normality. Gerardo and I had returned to the apartment the afternoon before and spent our time in and out of bed before, sadly, he had to go back to the cuartel. I had slept well and decided to make good use of the day. First up was to ring Marcelo. He was bored and keen to escape from his parents’ place for a while. We met up at the top of Las Ramblas and headed downhill past the Liceu opera house with its post
  7. I just hope the drunken idiots behave themselves. Interestingly, in rugby there is no separating the rival fans. People chat and laugh with other nationals. I went once to England v USA and the banter was fantastic. just started anthology piece; the creative juices seem to be flowing in a v sad direction…
  8. Hopefully they will cheer you up and you won’t be grumpy!
  9. Thanks! Yep, Ximo has been enjoying his freedom at the university to the full!
  10. Well, England are leading, incredible, Texan pubs running dry, predictable. I’ve gone to bed… yawn.

    Prologue

Thank you! Lilibeth has taken up swimming in the stream that flows into the sea. Not great news as the beach is sandy……
  13. Prologue A seemingly impossible love story between two young men: Ximo, a lazy student who has spent the term in bars and political meetings, hiding unsuccessfully his rich aristocratic background; and Gerardo, a Guardia Civil officer who is controlled by his blackmailing boss. A week has passed since they met on the evening after the Spanish Prime Minister was blown up in 1973 by terrorists after leaving daily Mass. The attraction was instant and Ximo was saved from arrest by Gerardo
  14. After all the excitement of being with Gerardo on the 26th, life became somewhat mundane during the following days. He was back at work. Enough said. On the 27th I decided to start dealing with the mass of work which I had pending to be handed in. Gerardo had been horrified when I confessed that I was months behind in my studies and with exams in two weeks. My father had given me what in the circumstances had been a gentle call to get myself in gear; Gerardo, with years of iron discipline with r
  15. A gay love story set in Spain 1973-4 where two lovers battle against the hatred that surrounds them.

    Storm in a Teacup

Delightful. The genteel world of Jane A is in the air, of course, but the story is a unique one.

    Telling Mum

Anne needs a wake up call otherwise she’ll end up not only with no grandchildren but no sons either.
  20. Hope he likes bagpipes!
  21. Off to beach with wieners... gosh it-s been a very hot day here with no breeze....
  22. Poor you. Hope you get all the TLC you need. I would send Lilibeth who apart from normally being a dreadful, evil wiener dog, knows amazingly when someone is ill and cuddles them. Meanwhile, an inadequate, but heartfelt hug from me. Xxxxx
  23. Happy Saturday! im on a high with two stories finished and both with my lawyer friend who is the perfect editor. sad to see that the wonderful artist David Hockney has died. A wonderful talent, and like all great artists he had a wiener dog or two at his side! As did Picasso!

    Chapter 7

Outside, the bell tolled on... a dirge for Giuliano, a knell for the Pazzi, a summons to vengeance that would drench the streets in crimson. beautiful writing, Andy
